O2 sensor problem

Since I replaced the MAF and cleaned out the O2 sensor the cars been runing great however the past week or so it's gone back to overfueling badly, I'm presuming that as the seals are leaking on the turbo (if indeed that's what it is) then the O2 sensor will be getting cacked up with burnt oil deposits. Other than removing the O2 sensor once a week and cleaning it out is there a temporary workaround I can do to stop this?, I thought about buying one of those O2 spacers off Ebay so it's not directly in the path of it but I think that would just make the car over fuel anyway wouldnt it?.

The O2 sensor looks fairly new, I just gave it a clean out with some carb cleaner when I was removing the cat out of the system as it was black as the ace of spades. I have a good spare one lying around I could just stick that one in but I'm worried about it getting cacked up again.

what about the water temp sensor..thats what went on mine and made it over fuel..dont think the 02 sensor would make it over fuel not sure tho......

Good point but if the O2 sensor measures the amount of unburnt fuel in the exhaust and its measuring incorrectly because its blocked up would it over compensate?... If I just unplug it would it go to the preset and would that use any less?..

for what they cost i would replace any way sir....20min job..my cash is on the wts...am sure 02 sensor does the unburnt fuel like u say..all i can defo say is thats what happened to me got new 02 sensor and never fitted it lol just did the wts..

Lol, ok thanks Phil. I've swapped the O2 sensor for now as I had a spare and I knew exactly where it was. I'll see how it goes tomorrow if it's the same then I'll try the wts..

That's a cheap quick test I'm going to do too. I didn't know you could clean O2 sensors but I do now.
I'll get myself a wts while I'm at it.

Ok, first drive this morning and at first nothing, still running like a bag of crap, however when I got to a stretch of dual carriage way and gave it a bootfull it seemed to clear it's throat, coughed loads of crap out the back and then took off like a frikkin scalded cat. It's been fine since, nearly back on full form (not completely sure yet) certainly a shed load better than it was. I'm gonna buy some more carb cleaner and clean up the one I removed when I get five minutes, just in case it is the O2 sensors getting clogged up and not just this one being duff.

Well after a good couple of weeks......all seems fine. It's now averaging around 25mpg mixed, on the motorways I'm seeing in the 30's. I cleaned the exhaust tip up last week when I painted the rear bumper and it's staying clean, not sure but I think there's no smoke coming out at all now... which is weird, unless of course it was the sensor all the time and not the seals on the turbo..

I've got hold of a wtc & am going to clean up my o2 sensor when I get a day off so fingers crossed, my tailpipes are sooted up due to overfuelling. Hope mine is sorted as easy as yours tc.

Just remember that in the end I replaced mine with a known good one.

I will buy one if it doesn't work mate, I'm busy saving for some calipers for mine plus my wedding so money is a bit rare ATM & a cheap fix would be top of the pops...

Was hoping after spending all this wedge it would've paid me back by now. The clutch seems to only slip when it's cooler at 5/6am. I'm hoping its down to the system needing bleeding. Tax runs out end of the month so its officially Sorn'd until I'm happy to use it daily. With the possible chance of a works van it maybe sometime. Gutting but worth it in the end.

At the moment I'm just hoping mine behaves its self for the next few weeks, if anything goes wrong I'm furked. Cars currently having to do a 40-50 mile round trip each day to get me to work and back, I currently dont even have breakdown cover as I can't afford to buy any until the end of next week.

Scratch that, just joined the RAC online, I can stop panicking whille I'm on motorways now,lol.
