Lee what's the brembo drilled discs like you brought from ebay? Thinking about getting them next month. Any improvement over standard discs?
My old discs were very worn, so naturally there was going to be an improvement no matter what I fitted. I also had the fluid replaced so braking was very much improved anyway. Sharper, more responsive and feel more sure footed than before.
I can't says there's any improvement or performance gain to be had over stock discs and pads. Ultimately, the stock discs are made by Brembo anyway, so having drilled Brembo can only really be an improvement aesthetically and maybe on the track with improved cooling.
As normal daily driving goes, there's no difference! So ultimately it's down to preference. The Brembo drilled or Brembo stock (supplied by Volvo).
Due to the Brembo drilled being only £40ish more than OEM, it's a no brainer for me especially once you've bought the pads all round too. Plus, they look much better than stock!!

I would agree they look much better than stock ones
+1 they do look better.
I've always prefered drilled discs. You get alot people saying there easier to crack etc... my fronts badly need replacing and best to replace all discs and pads. I'll be getting them next month. Cheers
Any update on your friends seized engine? I just wanted to let you know that I've one MY07 spare engine with 100k miles on it originally bought incase I crack a liner but till date never needed. If the Price is right I would be willing to sell my peace of mind engine to Keep a fellow R car on the road....
Your car is great bye the way, a bit like my black atacama VR :-)
Welcome to Vpcuk.
He's bought a brand new Engine from Volvo. It comes complete with all ancillaries minus the turbo. However, he's having his turbo from the seized engine, refurbished.
Cost is £5040 inc vat plus fitting.
Thanks for the offer though. Out of interest, what would you be looking for? Pm me if you don't want to tell everyone.

You think so?
I think I'd probably do the same. Bottom line is the R models are becoming so rare now, it's getting harder to find a clean, low mileage example that's not already been modded or mapped etc. His car is already heavily modded and has a custom map. Like me, he's owned it at least 4/5 years and spent over 10k in mods and maintenance. At least if he drops in a brand new engine he'll be able to carry on loving the car he's got. Otherwise, he'd have to start all over again with another R, tuning, modding, maintaining and fettling to get the same result. It's a tough call I know but one that gleams the best rewards IMH and cheaper in the long run. At least the new engine will be strong and shouldn't give any problems.
The jammy git gets to run her in for 500 miles again!

OK, don't get me wrong I can see the advantages in wanting to protect your investment but you have to admit that is a serious wedge of cash plus fitment! My concern would be which parts are actually brand new and not re-conditioned and I'd definately get the block shimmed before I started; even stock cars can split liners.

Car developed an intermittant loss of AWD two weeks ago, when we had all the really cold weather.
Fault code logged was DEM 0006, so I booked it into the Dealer and they confirmed it was a faulty AOC Haldex pump.
A week has passed and the car went into Volvo on Thursday for repair. I asked that they replace the Haldex filter and oil, even though this was only replaced last year.
I picked her today and what a result. All is normal. No more wheel spinning in 4th at 50 mph...lol.
I'm also pleased to say that Volvo managed to get the bill under £500. Result!
Total cost to me.....£34.

"Plus4 club" discount at the Dealer - 12% off parts, 50% off MOTs and anything from 25% > 33% off labour.
Then I have BRC (Breakdown repair cover) with the AA. This covers me up to £500 on parts, labour and VAT and can be used up to 5 times a year.
If you have AA breakdown then I highly recommend adding the BRC. It will pay for itself in the first claim! I've had BRC, formally known as PLC (Parts and labour cover) for many years and it has literally saved me thousands!!!
All I have to pay is a £35 excess and anything over £500 on the total bill.
To top it off, the Dealer even let me off the £15 that I should've paid for the courtesy car for 2 days. Only because the Haldex filter didn't arrive on time so I had the car an extra day. Top service from Lipscomb Volvo, I must say!

To summarise on the Recent repair:
For some months now, the car had been 'surging' when giving it the beans in damp, wet, icy conditions. Something I'd never experienced before in the 5 years of ownership. I just put it down to the crap road conditions. Alas, it would appear that it may have been, after all, the AOC Haldex pump starting to fail. Being an electric pump, it must have been slowing down or producing less pressure, much in the same way an electric fuel pump can partially seize up. This surging went on (only when pushed) for several months until it finally stopped working.
Those symptoms have now completely gone. Pushed her hard the other day from a junction in the lashing down rain and it pulled hard, smooth and did not falter whatsoever in the "tyres letting go" department! No torque steer at the front, no DSTC light flashing. It just felt "planted", "sure footed" and within seconds, my 100% confidence was back along with my beaming smile!
One to watch out for lads!
