    Right, next task...exhaust and ECU!

I've spoke to Jan Woth from WothRline and a helpful guy called Thomas in TME, plus also emailed Don from Kalmar Union, and I think I have some idea about what go for next. The exhaust tail pipe is a bit scabby anyway (good excuse)....

Jan thought about 270 hp and 400 Nm with a remap and a catback exhaust. TME said a little higher if the downpipe and cat are replaced also....but not cheap.

I was interested in those Turbo Tuner things but maybe a little beyond my skills at the moment...maybe later. First I think will try and scrape the cash together for both an exhaust and a remap from TME.

    Some advice from TME:

You will need to secure the "christmas tree" caps. You find it next to the throttle body under the black cover. Those rubber caps have a tendency to blow off with more boost. Also replace all thin vaccum hoses from the TCV. A vaccum leak will reduce hp and go into safe mode. This can be reset by removing the ECU wait for a minute and put it back in. The ignition key must always be away from the car everytime the ECU is removed.

[I assume Thomas was Swedish, almost impossible to tell from the techncial English above...it's embarrassing how good people who are not from our country can speak our language]

He also mentioned that max boost would be increased to 1.2 barg. I'm not sure what standard boost is around 10 psi according to a net search.

OK, it's not an S70...but good inspiration for owning one of them or an 854...

News to me, exhaust suppliers needed my VIN number as after chassis number 430000 there was a change in the hangers for S70 cars. My VIN is YV1-LS5306W2-481XXX...which means lots of stuff to certain people...

    http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle...olvo/VIN_Codes

    http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/vin_70.shtml

YV1 is a Volvo code for car (that's good to know),

L means it is an S70,

    S means 4 door,

53 means it has the B5234T3 engine...2.3 with 16T turbo M4.4 management system,

0 is an emissions code (which according to the Wikipedia link above is Super Ultra Low Emissions class...not very likely but the internet never lies!),

6 is an AW42 auto gearbox of the 4-speed variety,

W means model year 1998. Which sort of spoils the title of my thread...never mind, Good News Everyone!

2 means plant of assembly was Belgium.

I am reliably informed that 0 is emissions class for Europe...so my dreams of having a Low Emissions Vehicle have been crushed. Never mind, oil is a natural product

    Entertaining and informative

I've not seen anybody manage nearly 2 pages of a thread just replying to themselves lol.

I'd really like to get involved here but it's all a bit too old for me but keep plodding on mate, reminds me of when I first got the T5

lol thanks fella just plugging away here. Replies are optional but appreciated

Hopefully among the rubbish there will be some useful info built up over time. Unless the dreaded 'offer you can't refuse' comes along, like a Renault 11 Turbo or other 80's/90's tat that I will be powerless to resist.....

Just wait til you've lost 12 square inches of knuckle skin, a pint of blood, 3 years of a relationship and nearly £3500. You'll not stray from the Volvo because it owes you so damn much lol

    Oh, by the way...

    B5234t3 isn't the b-all and end-all...

from what I can remember, there's at least 3 generations of that engins (the T3 bit at the end is supposed to signify the generation of that particular engine) My 2003 T5 also has thew same engine code but has different crank, rods, injectors, manifolds, throttle, and ME7.1 engine management lol.

B = petrol, 5=No. of cylinders, 23= approx engine size (2319cc), 4= No. of valves per cylinder, T=Turbo, 3= (supposed) generation of engine.

But I guess you already knew that

I knew some stuff but not all. Yeah maybe not the best but best for me so far better than the T8 IMHO and that was good. It's certainly an improvement on the 460 too. As soon as I got it tho I started looking at red block engines (Smithy's 940 for example). Grass is always greener! Gets me to Asda alright for now I s'pose))
