new problem possibly fan burnt out??

hello all driven the car 7 miles to town today (sheffield) an upon parking up i noticed some smoke coming out the engine bay not loads but enough to cause concern. opened the bonnet and the smoke was comin from around the fan area. ive noticed for the last two years the fan has been quite noisy and latley it has been quiet. i tried to turn the fan with my finger and its quite stiff and gets tighter the further you try and rotate it. i looked at my dads fan on is s60 and noticed his fan spins with just a touch. could i be right in thinking the fan has burned itself out as a result of seized/knackered bearings?? all fuses are in tact so im not quite sure what to think.

anyybody know or have had this problem theirselves?

Certainly sounds like the fans knackered, being as they're fairly cheap it's a quick fix.

as with any thing second hand james you take the risk knowing it has been used for many miles some times it pays off and other times it dont, it all depends on how much you want to spend

A second hand radiator fan is going to be fine and it's a pretty easy fix as well just make sure you reconnect all the electrics to it when you're done. It's mostly 10mm bolts holding it in.
