    Question on my 854.

Looking under the bonnet, my 854 is obd1. I was trying to reset the service indicator, but the wire thing snapped. So my car is registered 1/8/96, but were obd1's only produced upto the end of 95?

welcome to the world of OBD1, mine is the same. Done quite a bit of learning the system as had to turn my service light off and had a SRS lamp on since the dash swap. Sorted now though, which wire have you broke?? The one you plug into the ports?

Hi Mark, think you will find thats when it had a private number plate, if you check on the DVLA online liecence service and put vehicle equiry in it will show you the GUL was 1st registered on the 1-8-1995

Yes, the wire with plastic plug on the end. It broke right where it joins the plastic plug. The wire was exposed and perished, so didn't take much to break. I watched a Youtube vid on resetting the service light, and tried it myself but................

Alright Gav. She is very well thanks and I'm loving her. The wire thing with the plastic plug has snapped, but my local indy can solder or change it if needs be. Even if she went on a private reg, she should be on an M plate now, so must be registered 1/8/96 to be on an N plate?

Gav, I've got mixed up cos I'm telling eyeryone that she's 18 this year, so she has to be a 95. She is at the front of my house now with the C70, whilst the V70 spends a bit of time in the garage......

And after all is said the registration date isn't the date the car was manufactured. It's not uncommon to see a car constructed 6 months before its registered in the UK if not longer

OBD2 came in on the 96 model year cars but that's build date not reg dates. The build year of a car usually starts late in the previous year. So for example production of 96 model year cars probably started in August/September '95. Volkswagen have announced the 2014 model year car specs and are about to start the production run of 2014 MY cars and we're only in May 2013
