    V70 hub bolts

Doing my front wishbone bushes this weekend. Firstly, am I correct in thinking that I will need to extract the hub bolts to do this job, and secondly, can I reuse them or should I get new ones that have not been torqued??
Have I read somewhere on here that XC90 hub bolts are a better replacement.......?

    Thanks guys

    Paul

Yes you do need to remove them and push the shaft in to stop the cv joint falling to bits.
As for the bolts most people don't change them, the do have a habit of working loose,so it's up to you if you want to I did when I did my fronts.
The xc90 bolts are used to stop axle ping but they are a lot more money to buy than the stock ones.

Just make sure you push the shaft into the box EVERY time you move something. The shaft has a habit of sneaking out when you're not looking

Hub bolts are stretch bolts & should be replaced everytime. Worst case if you re-use is they can snap in the end of the shaft = new CV joint.

It was a knock I would get when moving forwards then going backwards. All volvo did was Loctite the bolts.

Then I fitted the xc90 bolts not a problem since.

think about it a different way. if you upgrade your head bolts or arp big end bolts they are non stretch. whats the difference. stretch bolts are more trouble than worth.

    Correct!!! Wise words Dave.

personally, i recommend the XC90 bolts. yes they are more expensive, but its better that the normals ones coming loose and.....god forbid if it came all the way out!!
I had axle ping, XC90 bolts fitted = No more axle ping.

....and if you do fit XC90 bolts, they do not work loose so never need 'retorqing'.

Yes. There also 'stretch' bolts for a reason.

I understand where you are coming from Graeme, but I am with Lee and most other people on this one. For £35 odd quid, I will go for the XC90 bolts. Volvo must have designed them like this for a reason.
