Give cleaning it a go, brake cleaner works well
Use Carburettor cleaner....works much better than brake cleaner as brake cleaner does not dissolve carbon, tarnish or solidified dirt ingress that builds up on the 'hot wire'. Brake cleaner is only meant to dissolve brake dust and i would be a little concerned if that was in my MAF.

trust me....clean it first!!! I went to a customer last month who was going to scrap his Y reg Yaris becasue it drove like a piece of crap and would not rev above 3000rpm and kept cutting out at traffic lights.

I read the fault codes and all were linked to MAF.

I removed it, cleaned it and refitted.

Car revved sweet, idled perfect and drove like a 2 year old Yaris with 10k on the clock! The bloke was over the moon, slipped me a crisp £20 and told his missus that he's not selling it anymore. He then told me that his missus had put up with the car driving like a piece of crap for nearly two years.....they hadn't serviced it either (but that's another issue).

Morel of the story is this: For the sake of a £3 can of spray you'd be foolish not to try it. If it doesn't work then your gonna be out of pocket by £203 and not just £200.

Make sure you use the straw and whatever you do, DO NOT touch the straw on the MAF sensor or air temp sensor. They are very delicate and will break easily. Just direct the spray at it until it looks clean. Use copious amounts of cleaner. Refit, clear codes and drive.

I found carb cleaner leaves a residue when it dries. Brake cleaner removes the residue. I admit, i forgot to mentiob that but i was posting from my phone

I think the one I got off lee is a good one, it's Bosch and seems to works fine when you reset the codes. The thing is though the part number is one digit off on the end my old one ended in 5, which funny enough never even had a hot wire attached when I took it out to clean it. And this one has a 6 on the end. This could be the problem as I'm not sure but isn't mine me9?

Danny, find someone near you with ViDA. Dealer/specialist/forum member. If you go to a dealer or specialist, ask them how much to read your codes first. Might only be £20 or so BUT you will find out the EXACT problem. You have the problem that alot of members have, that is, you know there is a problem, but you are not 100% of what it is. Consequently you are tinkering around with guesswork and speculation and wasting your time.
Get on ViDA and you can crack on and sort the problem. A generic code reader will read them, but they are what they are, Generic. ViDA is the dogs danglies and made for Volvo.

Only place I know would have it is Volvo, I only use torque which gives me exactly the same fault codes as my mates decent fault code reader.

Thanks for clearing That up. What are me9 then? Still having a nightmare with this maf. Works fine when you reset the codes but when you turn it off and back on it runs like a bag of spanners

Ive got a good second hand one. I bought a new one from andrew page genuine bosh £180 and it still ran the same. Removed all boost pipes and cleaned them out and its spot on now.
