    BSR Optiflow Intake

    Anyone tried one of these?

Id like one purely for noise reasons on my S60 T5 but at the same time dont want to ££££ me MAF nor lose a bucket of BHP.

Am I being realistic?...Ive heard the BSR comes with a heatshield to reduce heat sink from the engine bay.

Hi Aero, I had one, very good quality.

However, I'd advise you not to get one due to intake fluctuations causing uneven running.

    Chris,

Is that what's causing your idle problems? Or is it something else?

something else ! still, no one knows, tis a mystery.

I think it's a self propigating problem with the ECU overcorrecting the idle.

    Hi,

The BSR Optiflow has a nasty habit of braking maf sensors. There are much cheaper ways of making your car run badly !

    but it sounds great !

Just need a way of straightening the airflow into the MAF ie. with a suitable cone. The Jr cone on the Optiflow, imo, is not suitable.

If you can make it work, then great. You may need to figure out a different mounting to minimise vibration.

I'm using the shield off a BSR Optiflow kit on my car. It isn't bad, but you get a better result if you use it as a base to properly enclose the cone. Ask Chris "Chicken Wire" Saffron about that!

Well, against all logic, common sense and reasoning Ive bought an Optiflow Kit from Nordic...Spot on service!

If the snow actually stops I 'll try and get round to fitting it this weekend. First impressions after opening the box were:-

great heat shield, cone looks a bit on the small side

Fingers crossed...oh and Ive also got a cosmetic mods to fit. Watch this space!

    Cool

IMHO its to close to the map for consistant air speeds, can't back this up with any air flow readings just an opinion.

oi, I'm sure that's what I told you

He's correct though, the cone is too near the MAF - extend it an inch or two with some hose.

Battled agianst artic conditions this morning and fitted the kit.

No instructions given but fairly self explanatory. Existing cold air feed a bit of a s*d to fit and took a bit of wiggling about to make it sit right.

Other than that, a doddle. Took only 20 minuted to fit.

Didn't have any suitable pipe to extend the cone out as per previous posts so its as BSR intended for now.

    First impressions are.....Cool!

No warning lights / eratic idling / odd running.

However, as expected no noticable difference in performance other than it does feel slightly stronger at the top end, although this could just be subjective due to the amazing noise the car makes now! It's a snarling beast!

Yet when driven normally it sounds no different to before other than the CBV or CHAV valve (as Hamish calls them) type noise when you let off the throttle.

Worth the dosh if just for the sound alone.

    Here's an under bonnet piccy:-
