Brake shields mate - my rear ones rattle a bit.

I had a feeling it was something in that region as when i tap the brakes, the knocking/tapping stops instantly!

    Any quick fixes?

I haven't been bothered to sort it lol but just check round the shields and make sure nothing's touching anything else and all the bolts are tight.

Mine does that. Annoying but I have learned to live with it. Does not do it when the wife drives as she is only about 7 stone, so it is just us fat lads!!

i have pretty much the same problem it usually happen when going slowly over pot holes (misses driving) i have had it up on ramps and grabbed everythibg thing you can think of it kinda sounds like something is moving to hit summet elese only when going slow even if im in reverse but sually when in reverse its low on revs engine struggle exhaust rattle type thing if that makes sense ???

ive yanked wishbones track rod ends steering rack hubs even the engine nothing moves or rattles it has done it since ive had it now my mot is up in a few weeks and it will then go up for sale so sorting it will be good

i hope the derv doesnt do it otherwise i will screw lol

Put some weight on, that way like me, you'll be so heavy the seat won't be able to move.

Mine rattles more when I brake, so the complete opposite. It sounds like something being rattled around in an egg box at times. My money is on Steering rack or as Graeme said earlier in the thread, something to do with the inner tie rods.

All I'll say is this, the car wouldn't have made this sound 12 years ago so that means something is wrong even if I can't find it. I'll have a garage take the whole front end off and put it back on from scratch if I have to, because it's one of the most irritating rattles ever, especially since I've nearly bankrupted myself replacing the entire suspension.

Sometimes, when they get old, the drivers seat makes a clonk when your weight shifts about (pressing the brake would stop this). The tortion of the chassis on these cars makes it sound like it's coming from elsewhere (tap the handbrake with a screwdriver - it sounds like it's rattling in the back).
It took me ages to work out where it was coming from lol.

    just a thought.

I have similar problems like this ! its got me going insane as I hate secondary noises or noises that shouldn't be there, especially when you cant find the culprit !.................after reading lots about the front ends ,I find it very difficult to understand why volvo designed it like that !
