as said above if this is your first time with a machine i would stay well clear of a rotery, yes its quicker but also very hard to get right. to be honest unless your doing heavy compounding after wet sanding a DA is much better, less risk and a dam sight easyer to get to grips with

The 3M is one of the best - as it maintains rpm irrespective of pressure. I have the CYC EP801 mid-range machine - works well (invest in the 3M flex backing pad).

I take it you use the machine to put it on, but still go by hand to get it off.

Got some meguires ultimate compound, ultimate polish and tech wax to try and get it gleaming again.

Depends what you're trying to do. With polish - Hopefully there will be little to wipe off. Technique is key, you'll need to work the polish long enough for it to break down.

There are buffing pads for use with LSPs but by that stage it is unlikely you'll need a machine. I tend to hand apply final wax.

like said above the 3M ones are the bomb and you can get a kit with the 3 pads, green, yellow, and blue, 3 liquids again green( fast cut) yellow (swirl remover)
and blue (hologram remover) and 3 cloths colour coded again for each application. Euro car parts have just been round our place offering the kit for £250.

the only thing you would have to add to this kit is some good wax, i use this stuff every day and its awsome.

for home use i have a dodo juice which is really light and nice to use, digital RPM ajustment and a long lead. the only thing i dont like is the lack of a trigger but you get used to it. Elite car care do them for £90 i think with a couple of pads.

the other ones are dewalt which all of the meguiars guys seem to use.

I mean when using the ultimate compound and ultimate polish.

I had a go with a foam mop on an angle grinder a while ago. Worked well and was pretty quick. A squirt of water on the paint along with whatever compound/wax etc and take it easy to start with until you get a feel for it. What I did discover, which I found quite amusing, don't hit the washer jets with it as it instantly results in a shower of foam and a knackered mop

I bought a Meguiars DA last week and tried it for the first time this weekend. It's pretty much idiot proof. Adjustable speed for compounding and polishing and doesn't damage the paint. Easy to use. Would definitely recommend it. First time I've ever used a machine to polish and the results were impressive. Bit more practice and it will be a piece of cake
