Had quite a busy day today, I decided to get a couple of jobs out of the way and things sort of snowballed. I started off removing the windscreen wiper arms to repaint them, they'd gotten quite badly stone chipped (how the hell does that happen anyway?), while they where off I noticed that for some strange reason one of the wipers was a lot smaller than it should be, this has now been replaced with a handy spare one I had lying around. I then decided to finally fit the replacement rear window washer pump I've had lying around for months, this went a lot smoother than I though it would and I now have a working rear wash wipe. I've removed the stickers for the gearstick lock as I hate having pointless stickers in the windows (also the windows are getting tinted at some point anyway). After all this I decided that the engine bay was looking very sorry for itself..

    Before:

As you can see the engine has lots of that orrible engine laquer on it (curse the guy/woman that invented that crap), took ages to scrape it all off, I then gave the head a bit of a clean up along with the fuel rail and a few other bits and pieces and I then decided to paint the cam cover and the inlet manifold.

    After:

Not the best job I've ever done but certainly an improvement on what it was, to do much more I'm going to have to strip things down and I really wasnt in the mood for that today.

Once all this was complete I decided I would finally fit one of my own splitters to the front of the car, this is actualy the first one I've ever put on any of my cars, not out of not wanting to, purely because I'm a lazy bugger and couldn't be bothered making one before,lol.. I have a feeling that after repairing the bumper it's now a slightly different shape as it was a pig to fit and I'm not overly happy with how far back the front edge is, given more time I'd have hacked it up and remade it fit better.

Finished it all off with a wash, now knackered and going in search of alcohol.

Dude it looks tidy, really clean under the bonnet, don't think mine will ever be like that.
Is that a standard rip kit? Another job on my list is to compile a rip kit, I should never of bought my silicone hoses but they were needed at the time. Lol

Ian, thanks bud, I really appreciate that. Still lots and lots to do however, think the biggest changes will be next month once I finally get some money together.

Looking good, the work you've done to the engine bay, even if your not happy with it has made it look a lot cleaner/tidier just like the way a low mileage bay would look, job well done. Splitter finishes it off at the front but then I've always loved the TC splitter

Thanks Andy, still tons to do yet but it's slowly coming together. No idea why I've never put a splitter on one of my cars before, glad I put one on this as it ad's a lot to the look of the front end. Should have some eyebrows for it in the next day or so, they're just being finished now so as soon as I have them painted I'll get em on. Also got an eggcrate grill coming next week as well, didn't cost very much, just hope it's as good as it looks in the pics.

Added another new piece the other day, nothing amazing, just an egg crate grill that I managed to pick up reasonably cheap off Ebay, undecided on painting it or not yet. Appologies for the poor photo, it was getting a little dark when I took it.

A few weeks ago I was filling up the car at the petrol station and noticed something rattling around in the very top part of the rear lights, that weekend I pulled both lights off and fished these out:

I'm presuming that they're a strobe bulb?.. they where obviously fitted by one of the previous owners but I dont know why, does anyone know the history on this car?.

After doing some investigating on the forum today I've worked out that one of the previous owners refurbed the turbo, I have no idea how good the refurb was but the car's still producing blue smoke. Going to get a compression test done before I buy anything, make sure it's not the rings, failing that it's another rebuild or the stem seals.

Well being as I don't have much else I can do I've finally decided to start airbrushing the engine covers, I've got the sparkplug cover off and prep'd so far. If this turns out ok then maybe tomorrow I'll prep the others. No real idea what I'm going to paint on it yet, pictures will be forthcoming once it's laquered.

I reckon you should airbrush the 5 cylinders as if looking inside the engine? It would look different with the Volvo 20v embossed on it.
    The cars looking great btw.

Thanks Biff, it's getting there, looks a hell of a lot nicer now than it did when I got it. I think I'm going for flames, and something else... dont know what yet, maybe another skull, engine covers been painted black just need to finish making the stencils and then first thing tomorrow I'll go throw some paint on it.

I have only really taken notice of it since my mate started showing his truck, some of the effort is unreal, the skill is unreal. I've seen your work, its nice mate so I await what you do, sure it will be spot on.
