"Engine Service Required" at MOT

Hi all.

My S60 D5 has the "Engine Service Required" message pop up on the DIM from time to time and this has been diagnosed as a faulty clutch position sensor.
I have not got round to replacing the sensor yet, easy job I know but I never use the cruise control so not a big deal to me.

Is the MOT tester likely to fail, or refuse to test the vehicle due to this warning?
No Engine light or other lights/warnings present.
It rarely does it but sods law dictates it WILL come on at MOT time.

I`m assuming it will be OK but would like some clarification if possible.

i think that does count as an engine warning light so yes i think it will fail if it comes on, for the sake of £30 just replace the switch

OK.
Test is tomorrow at 9.30 so no chance of doing it before then.
Just to clarify, the orange triangle/EML light does NOT illuminate, just the ESR message on the DIM.
Looking more closely at the regs I don`t think they can actually fail the car for it but they may refuse to test it in the first place
due to that message being present.
I imagine this is due to the fact that they have to rev it up a bit for the emissions/smoke test and may not be willing to do it in case they cause engine damage.

I will probably just explain the situation to the tester beforehand and see what he says.
The fault is already diagnosed and the car is tip-top otherwise. (Should be after spending 3.5k in the last 9 months!!!)

Does anyone have any further information on this potential fault? My 2003 V70 D5 has thrown this message (Engine Service Required) twice this week. No red/ amber triangle, just the message on the DIM. The only effect it seemed to have is that it wouldn't allow me to set cruise control on. I thought that the cruise control buttons might be playing up and I ended up pressing the 'Cruise' button so hard that i sounded my horn. In a village. At 4:40am.

The car now has 225K on it, of which I'm responsible for 80K of that. Could it be clutch related? Is it a sign that the clutch is worn or on it's way out? I'm constantly paranoid about the clutch going as it's a big bill for an old car so I flit between not caring and ignoring everything, to being a JamesT5 about it!

Hold the clutch pedal in then turn the ignition on, if the message comes up when u release the pedal it's the clutch switch

Just tried it 3 times, no message. I was going to go to my Volvo specialist on Monday to get any codes read, so we'll see what comes of it then.

Bloody hell, it must be the best switch in the world.

I had a problem with my brake pedal switch (on the 850) fortunately because it is a simple open/closed switch I was able to take it apart and clean the contacts (as they were blackened from all the years of arcing) Not sure if this is the case with the clutch pedal, I guess it doesn't handle high current.

On mine it is definitely the clutch switch but it does not do it all the time.
Maybe 1-2 times per week.
As said, the giveaway is that your cruise control will be inactive.

Yes, it must be the worlds best switch at £30, thats the main reason I have not replaced it yet.
Usually caused by a tiny leak on the Master Cyl leaking directly onto the sensor so if you replace it, wrap the new one so it doesnt go the same way.

My clutch switch went, so replaced it & that went without 3-4 weeks. For the 3rd one I wrapped it in a food bag, been fine since

Took one of my cars for an MOT yesterday and asked this question. I was told that the only lights they are concerned about are safety related, ABS SRS etc. Engine management lights and service lights would not be a failure.
