££££ Andy, sorry to hear it. Although mines not cost anywhere near what yours has I know how you feel, when cars start spending more time in the garage than out of it then it's usually a good time to part ways.

Sorry to hear this Andy. Lovely car, get it sorted & get out on the open road for a good blast - it'll ease the pain somewhat! All the best, Morgan

Certainly a engine out and strip down, in the mean time sourcing a 2nd engine running blues on a Hlm map would see you out on the road again reletivly quickly and with what should be a reliable car.

This would give you time to stip the original engine down and see whats what with it.

Keep with it mate would be my opinon but i am Very very gutted for you to say the least i know how much the car means to you and how much admired it is on the forum.

    Bad times

I know how it feels - so I would step away for a week, think about it and then decide. I hope you have a good outcome, what ever happens.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, the support from the forum, despite my infrequent visits of late, is a nice uplift.

I've sorn'd the car so it's now off the road officially. I've been talking with Russ and he's happy to take the car and look/repair it for me but it's going to be a while before he can get it in. This means I'm going to buy a cheap car to get me about until he can get it sorted as being without a car is torture and it's not even been a week yet.

So if anyone knows of a cheap car which might not be pretty to look at but is mechanically sound, as I'm not really looking to spend any money on repairs if I can avoid it then let me know..

Damien wise I'll keep you all posted on how the repairs go.

Thanks again for the supportive and kind words, you guys are great!

Andy, I can't recommend a cheap car to you...but I can recommend a car that is almost impossible to find for reasonable money in good condition..an 854R in gun metal grey

    Sad news Andy

Definitely sit on things for a while, I can imagine how gutted you are at the moment...I would be as it certainly has been/still is a massive project for you over the years and a big investment.

    Hope it all works out

Thanks for all the comments guys much appreciated.

The car is now sorn'd and laid up in the garage until such a time that Russ can look at it.

For the meantime I'll be scratching an itch I've had for a very very long time, I'm going to get another Volvo... More on that as things progress
