    Seized Rear Caliper

Got home from a party last night to the smell of hot brakes and noticible radiant heat from the rear right wheel. The caliper (as advised at my service a couple of weeks ago - why don't I listen!) has seized.

Local GSF doesn't have one in stock and I need to get to Stoke (where they do have one in stock) for work on Tuesday. A Couple of questions:

1: If I whip the caliper off and give it a thorough service (clean any corrosion off the piston etc), would I be able to trust it for my 70 mile commute?

2: When I replace the caliper, should I be replacing the pads as well? They're only a few thousand miles old and have plenty of meat left. Discs were replaced at the same time, I could do without replacing these as well!

Depends how bad it is binding. My old shogun made the disc glow red before I got round to sorting it, whereas I have just done the wifes MX5 and it was only marginal. Grease it up and hope for the best. As long as it does not warp your disc you will be fine. Pads will be fine unless it is binding really badly.
You will probably find that the caliper does not bind every time, so just get the journey done and get it sorted. You will be fine.............
