    98 C70 (pre ME7) coil upgrade???

Ive just purchased some magnecore leads to try and cure my misfire, if these dont help cure the problem (as my leads seem fine anyway) im thinking coil.

Its done 175k now and think it could do with being changed. I see on fleabay the standard units arnt even that cheap and i think i remember seeing an upgrade unit for around $280 from the US.

I know the units uses an amplifier and was wondering whether theres anything special about the coil, could the amplifier and coil be upgraded with some more universal style kit?
I would rather spend £150 down at demon tweaks or something...

A common upgrade is the MSD coils, think its about £40 directly from them. I'll post a link when I get home

MSD coil, & if you want to take the ignition a bit further you can add the 6A ignition unit LINK (i've got the older analogue system)

Cheers there matey... i take it youve got doubled up coils there?
Does the 6A run with the volvo ecu or is it stand alone?

i'd love to try using the 2 coils at the same time, but think something wouldn't be happy if it did lol. My launch control system won't work with the 6A unit so its running 2 seperate ignitions, it simply switches between either the 6A or the other coil when the launch control is activated. The 6A works with the normal ecu, it takes the signal from the amplifier & messes with it from there

Cheers good info here. Nice setup
I take it only the msd launch control and limiter will work with the 6a?

thanks. MSD do a 6AL which has a built-in limiter, but uses a silly system of putting in a different chip for what rpm you want (or they did when i last looked). My launch control is simply a second rev-limiter thats worked off a clutch pedal switch, so while your resting the car on the biting point it won't rev over 3500rpm, then once your moving & release the pedal fully it bypasses the limiter giving full revs

I have an MSD Blaster coil, yours for £20

I was advised to take it off, and go back to OEM, yes, it has a higher voltage output, but less amperage.

Cheers Paul ... Sold will pm you.

I have bought the leads but as usual with my orders they are late, like my coilovers that "will be with you on friday" didnt tell me it was going to be the 7th friday from then.

I'm going to put a new cap and arm on when i fit the leads.

My misfire tonight has been really bad and spoiling the drive
Im going to fit a new fuel filter and put some flush through some some extra kick up the back side.... also the dreaded pcv is just all gunk....
i want to get these things right before the remap and the rest of the nitrous.
Im due a nice payout from getting run into last year so.... time to get it all sweet, im also thinking of buying a few litres of a certain colour paint too

    Cheers for your input guys
