    Question Wing Mirror 'Kerbside' Light

Just a quick one this really, does anyone know what bulb is needed for the kerbside light under the wing mirror? Also, how on earth are we supposed to change the lightbulb, seeing that it's enclosed in the wing mirror housing? I've had a look on Parts For Volvos Online and I couldn't see any bulbs under the mirrors and lighting category....

I've got one out on the wing mirror on the passengers side, which I noticed was out when I started playing with the yellow button on the key fob the other day. I also noticed a side light was out, this was 18 pence to fix and I also replaced the other bulb as well (I always replace bulbs in pairs unless it's in an emergency). What's odd though, the car gives us a message if a tail or front light is out but not a side light. Very odd!

Anyway, advice about the kerb lighting would be greatly appreciated. I'm just wondering if I can get some coloured bulbs to go in there, given they're not road lighting I should in theory be able to choose whatever colour I like.

    Regards

    James

I replaced mine a few months back with LED 501s, the bulb holders are removed by tilting the mirror up and inwards which reveals a small tab on the holder, pressing the tab with a driver allows it to drop down out of the mirror housing.

Making sure that the LED is in the correct way round before reinserting the bulb holder into the door mirror.

You need to tilt the mirror and you will see the retaining clips that you prise with a screw driver and push it down, they are the same as your number plate bulbs
    Thanks

Ok, thanks to everyone for the advice, especially stephenevans99 for the pictures. I thought the P2 models have an 'allergy' to Light Emitting Diodes and flash warning lights on the dashboard at the driver unless the blown bulbs are replaced with standard ones? Or, are the wing mirrors and number plate lights the exception?

    Regards

That looks mint, thanks for your help and I'll give that a go. Obviously I'll need white for the number plate lights and side lights but the wing mirror lights I could choose any colour I want.

Makes a change doesn't it! That's probably why the side lights aren't showing up as 'out' on the DIM, because they aren't actually linked to the same system as the other lights. The question is, why?

Have you seen the 'logo' leds on eBay? Install them into your door cards so they shine the Volvo emblem onto the road as you open the door....waiting to see if anyone fits them.

    Interesting............!
The sidelight, numberplate and mirrors won't need resistors will they?
I was thinking of LEDing tail/stop/turn lights a while back, but it was far more involved than I thought. Fitting all the resistors and still getting errors frightened me off

i've got 2 sets, going to have a go at what you describe hopefully tomorrow. Just hoping its not too hard to find the right wire on the door latch that will turn them on when the doors open (& to find a permanent live)

All the 501 wedge bulbs will be fine mate.
The rear lights will be more difficult as they connect directly to the board, meaning you'll need to do some soldering.

I've got the resistors for the front end lights. There will soon be HIDs and a lot of LEDs

Go straight to the footwell lights mate, then they'll come on when you unlock the car.

i would, but had a look today & its a nightmare to get extra wires into the door. & as the door will be shut you won't see them anyway, i'm putting them into the door card where it raises up for the SIPS on the B-pillar

    Big girl!

Thought you were gonna put them in the mirrors?

Looks like I'll be doing another "how to" at some point
