    S60R engine in a 850

    Does or has anyone fitted a S60R engine in a 850 ??

I no the S60R engine has VVT but the 850 doesn`t so is it a case of not using the VVT ??

1996 850 T5 AWD - Self tuned M4.4 ECU with COP`s, ostrich 2.0 , green injectors, K24 turbo, 3.25" MAF, top mounted Dump Valve, RN Exhaust manifold, 3" downpipe with 200 cell cat, 2.75" Stainless exhaust, Brembo calipers, S60R brake discs, stainless RIP kit, 3" Throttle body,

TBH if you're just going to use the bottom end, then you'd be better off with a 2.4, as the liners are thicker. Nick MRP's engine whilst he's not looking.

The 2.4 engine is the same as the 2.5 the only difference is the 2.4 has a 90mm stroke and the 2.5 has a 93.2mm stroke.

going back to the original question, you do lose some performance without VVT, as we found when ours packed up, butI suppose if you use higher lift cams, or port and polish the head, you may be able to compensate for it.

    Why not just put a ported/polished 850 head on a S60R bottom end ??

Smaller valve stems for one thing, and I assume a better flowing design as it's 10 years more modern than the 850 head.

I was under the impression the valves are the same size on both heads

The only difference was the VVT.
