    Tyre Question

    Hi all,

Having just limped up my road in the snow, and embarrassingly only just making it, can anyone recommend a tyre that's good in snow?

Admittedly I've got budgets on at the moment and to be fair they are quite good, but I had my pants pulled down today and my backside well and truly slapped!

I'm not after dropping everything and panic fitting full-on Winter Tyres, but can anyone recommend a decent elastic band to fit to my rims?

    Cheers in advance!

Can't beat Michelin Alpin A4's however Lidl are doing chains this week for £20 and snowsocks are supposed to be OK for short distances.

Go find a grit bin with some grit in it ,see what your council did last summer.
If its like our bins the house holders put it on there garden paths and not any left for the hill roads.

I managed very well with Asian based winter tyres on just the driven wheels. Snow was a lot more abundant last winter too.

The avon zz3s that where on my s70r were excellent in the snow. They were really good dealing with standing water too.

I have those all round on my bmw. They are a decent all round tyre, lots of grip in the dry.

I thought fitting winter tyres to just your driving wheels (2WD) is likely to cause issues with the back end skidding?

It does BUT it's a lot more controllable, that's what I have on my V40 and tbh it's actually quite fun and the back only steps out if you want it too.
    Thanks

Volvo recommend that winter tyre's should be fitted from when the temparature drops below 7 degs, and if you do splash out on some you won't regret it, as the driving experience in snow and the wet winter conditions is greatly improved, once you try them properly you won't be without them, I just bought a cheap set of rims off Ebay so I can drop them on as and when

Yes there is a risk but most of that is when turning a corner & I drive slower around 'em.
