D5 engine: Should there be a plug in this hole?

Perhaps a dumb question, but its worth chasing down all possibilities.

I have had some major oil loss from my D5, coming from somewhere on the front of the block.

I noticed this threaded hole on the front of the block (ringed in red) - should it have a bung in it, or does this look normal?

    Thanks

Just looked. It has a bolt in it holding a C clip that holds the main positive cable to the alternator - no drama!

    Thanks.

I think the problem is/was with the filter housing, but noticed this and thought it was worth checking.
