HU-803, CD unit swap?? Anyone done it???

    Hi All,

I decided to go for a replacement HU-803 as my CD mech had stuffed itself. Ive installed the replacement but now
my steering wheel buttons dont work and i guess id need a trip to the dealer to sort it out

    OR!

I could swap the working CD unit into my existing unit, but i dont want to mess things up even more! Ive had my old unit
apart and i can easily swap them, im just not sure if the new CD unit will work once i swap it.

Has anyone swapped a CD changer unit????
    Thankyou, Goodnight....much love

    Hi Paul,

Apparently there are 2 units with the same HU 803 id but in two different colors - Light Grey has the OLD version software & Dark Grey which is the newer version with new software.

If your original was the Dark Grey headunit and have now replaced it with a Light Grey unit, it will interchange but you will have problems with your steering wheel controls.

I imagine Volvo should be able to update the software.

Sorry....no idea about swapping cd units over.

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Both stereos are identical, the replacement is from a 2001 though and mines a 2002. I believe Volvo can code it to my car, but i dunno how much it would be

Well that's good news....why not take a few piccies & do a "How To'. Mines the HU-803 and may at some point be in the same boat - it'd be great to actually see what's involved.

Ok mate, will do. Its not THAT bad of a job. The hardest bit for me is getting the damn stereo back in as Ive got loads of
boxes at the back of mine due to the hands free being installed
    Thankyou, Goodnight....much love
