The solvent should remove the overspray BUT it can also remove more if it's left on to long or rubbed to hard, when they say they are finished just ask for the mat Finnish not a cockpit spray finish as this can hide a lot when first used.

Solvent will remove the surface from the trim and properly ruin it so tell them if they use solvent and it damages it then you will be taking this to trading standards for sure. Remember, they damaged your property and I'd be putting the pressure on them right now.

Do not let them use any solvents and make sure and watch that they dont.

I agree with jimmie. If they use solvent it will melt the plastic for sure and damage the original finish. Theonly way to fix that shoddy repair is to replace the oversprayed trim. So that will be a new glove box lid, center console and side panels! Sweet. If they don't replace it then speak to the manager and assure him/her that you want to use there phone and your going to call trading standards and your solicitor. Tell them they better gets their ar*e in the parts dept right away and order the parts. I would seriously go ape sh*t mate!!! That is completely unacceptable. If the manager says he'll get the company back to redo it, drag him over the counter and ask him if he's deliberately trying to wind you up!

This is why I only use an independent specialist on my cars now. They are a small business and customer satisfaction is a priority to them. The big main agents don't give a §§§§ as it's not there own company so to speak.
As an example I've been taking both my Audi and Bmw to the same specialist in German cars. On my last visit with the Bm it was for a major service. After a day I heard I noise coming from the back near side. Since the service involved removing the brakes etc, I phoned the garage with my concerns. Straight away the owner said he would come straight out to me. This was on a Friday evening in the peeing rain and he is 30 miles from my house. After removing the wheel it turned out to be a stone had flicked up and got trapped in the caliper. I was very embarrassed but the owner just laughed it off. He was just relieved it wasn't something that he had done. I offered to pay him but he said no, customer service is a priority and he's right as he will continue to have all my future business.

If it had of been a main dealer they would of probably told me to bring the car in to them the following week or just to get lost.

I think you've hit the mail on the head here, and you're absolutely right. Main Dealers really don't care and the independent specialist will give you the same expertise but without the poor customer satisfaction of a Main Stealers.

I only use a Stealers as a last resort now, and I mean a last resort. That reminds me, I must get my complaint typed up this week about that poor service I have in October.

    Regards

    James

    I have a bit of an update to this, its been almost a year since this was done and the car is going down for its service on Friday so I though I better get chasing to see what they plan on doing now.... I got an email from the service manager saying;

    Hi martyn

Got pictures, as the chap who done it has retired, so I don’t know what to suggest to remove the over spray, there is no one in our area I could ask, it will need to be a solvent but one that doesn’t cause more damage, have you tried anyone locally that does it?

Now I havnt tried anyone local until now I didn't see why I should have. I have how ever got in contact with a guy and im going to take it to him on Friday morning before I go down and see what he says.
    Thanks

don't take offence, but a couple of things here. They did that bodge to your car last time, yet your still taking it too them for a service? Plus a year on & you haven't escalated it any more than "I better get chasing to see what they plan on doing". If i'd of had that sort of work done on a car i cared about i'd of threatened them with court action after a couple of months if it wasn't getting anywhere. Also my reply to "I don’t know what to suggest" would of been, "i do, order in replacement parts if you can't correct your failure"

I know where you are coming from 100% Im taking it to them for a service because it wasn't them that bodged the car it was a third party they hired and there is no other Volvo dealer. I have had a really busy year, as you know I went down to MRG with my car to be repaired I wasn't up for another car related trip in the car for this unless they had something sorted out for me, I was going to take it in when I came u from MRG but when I had my break down I never got up the road until early hours of the morning, Perth isn't on my door step. Yes Im bad for not chasing things but I absolutely hate stuff like this im no good at confrontation I go one way or another with it, im either a push over or I just go mental and start swearing at them. Im hoping the interior repair guy says he cant remove this stuff without damaging the interior then I will be going down there expecting replacement parts.

§§§§ Martyn, I've just read through this, I got to the end expecting to see a happt outcome of you getting the panels replaced, these guys are taking the proverbial!. I'd have gone bat §§§§ if I'd picked my car up and it had looked like that!.. Dont let them get away with it, demand that they sort this out!, not that your planning to but imagine if you tried to sell this with the interior looking like that, the buyer would think you'd bodged that yourself to try and get a sale and would probably walk away.

why don't you ask the dealer the name of the 3rd party so you can get in touch his insurance company which he was insured with at the time of doing the work as he must have cover for this type of §§§§ up.
or are the main dealer using uninsured subcontractors ?

I actually mentioned this at my work today, surely if he was covered at the time, it should still stand

A decent trim repairer will be able to sort that lot out with knowledge and time, some of the comments on here did make me chuckle, as upset as I would be about the situation, and make no mistake I would be very upset, dealt with amicably there is no need for threatening behaviour of any kind and if the service manager is good at his job I have no doubt that it will be sorted. I have to say though I'm shocked you've not done something about it sooner Martin,
