    shadow's t5r.

    well where to start.

I got a call from a mate that was working as a valeter at a volvo dealer's in motherwell saying that there was an 850 been traded in and was going to be scraped and that he could get it cheep if i wanted it so went to see it and i couldn't believe what i was seeing. less then 5 minuets later i was driving home in a yellow 850 t-5r auto with a spotless interior and no body damage (tho the paint had seen better days) and it had just had all the brakes renewed as well as the rear calipers. I ran the car for about a year and then decided to do a manual conversion so got all the parts i needed and changed it my self in my front garden

while i was there i changed the rear main oil seal and fitted an R clutch

the new seal is different to the old one its got a sort of felt ring on the out side of it.

once all the stuff under the bonnet was done i fitted all the interior parts.

this picture show the difference between the two pedal boxes

this it the inside all finished. and because all the parts i got came from another t-5r the gear knob and the center console all match the rest of the interior

So i ran it like this for about another 6 months or so then after going to a few mini meets decided that i had to do something about the paint. so as one of my mates is a spray painter he said that if i got the paint and other stuff need he would do it for free. when we eventually found some where to do the job it was started.

the guy in the red is my mate that painted it and the guy sanding the bonnet is my wee brother. the only panel that needed replacing was the front wing it had the usual rust behind the bumper but other than that there wasn't anything needed.

    wraped and primed.

5 coats of volvo 607 yellow paint.

and a whole 5 ltr of lacker.

once all that had been done it was left for about a month to fully harden and then it was machine polished.

    .

I have done a few other things too. Iv fitted a RIP kit that i got for a fiver from a scrapyard and the 302 mm disk conversion the different head lights with hid's in them and red silicone hoses. iv also got an 850 R spoiler too just need to get it painted first. That's just about it just now next thing to do is the exhaust and the turbo and then get it remapped and maybe fit uprated rods at some point.

Looks fantastic mate. You are very lucky to have found it! I'm with Phil about the number plate though =) Any plans for engine mods or going to leave it standard?

    Mitch.
    Grey 855R Manual. Totally standard.

lol i was about to say it shouldn't have a RIP kit, then spotted you'd fitted it. Looks very nice, shame to see that people are getting more money trading/scrapping them in than selling them on

    thank's guys.

I have a lot of plans for the engine but no money just now aslo about the reg plate it was the only way i could mount it as i didn't want to put holes in the freshly painted bumper and it was kind of a rush job for the MOT. iv still got poly top mount and the lower wishbone poly bushes to fit.

this is where my love of volvo's started

that was another fluke. bought it off ebay from someone in wigan without even driving it and he delivered it to aswell. it been the most reliable car i ever had. iv been everywhere in it and everything in it still works still using it just now as the 850 is going off road for the winter. its also has a rich mod ECU fitted to it and even for an old car with 135,000 on it it still shows up a lot of the newer socalled hot hatches.

Very nice motor indeed mate. I have always been a fan of the T5-R's, I had a black manual T5-R saloon and now on a red auto R saloon.

Whats more its really nice to see the car getting the attention it deserves, very rare too are the yellow saloons.

Im not going to hate you for the price of the car... not in the slightest, I too have had a T5-R for little under a grand albeit not a yellow one.

Im assuming the £500 was mainly the re-spray in which case its still a very cheap car.
