V70 T5 now showing red triangle.

Right, originally had the orange triangle up for DIM/SRS fault but now I have red triangle.

I'm fairly sure none of my doors are open and yesterday I changed the coolant and it looked a touch over filled - would I get a red light for coolant level too high?

Other than that ill just check oil level when cold - any ideas?

Can't see bloody DIM messages because the DIM has long failed.

Red Warning is Something important Check oil ,brake fluid ,Water level.
It might think there's no water in it
Put a dice /vida reader on it As it could be anything.

Check the float in the coolant tank mate, it may have jammed down when you filled it, that'll give you the red triangle.

    Good shout!

Lets hope it's coolant related as I haven't touched anything else.

May sound daft but the triangle also comes up for a bulb out... simple things first, check all the lights work!

Only Orange triangle for a bulb mate. The dim failing can also throw a brake failure warning which gives a red triangle.

Personally, what with your DIM being on the way out, I wouldn't believe anything it says.

    Hmmmm...

Well my STC 100% doesn't work. Even with it engaged I can spin the wheels easily and nothing flashes to tell me the wheels are spinning.

Maybe I should replace the DIM then but I haven't got that sort of money really.

Ill check levels etc tomorrow but car appears to drive ok.

I can't believe the amount of dim failures you read on here, you would have thought past owners would have replaced them by now.

You would have thought so yes.

My trac. control doesn't work and I don't think my ABS does either and I reckon it's down to DIM.

Failed dim won't stop those functions working. The abs can be tested by stopping on mud - you should feel a fast vibration through the pedal. The basic version of tracs on your car works up to 20mph and will allow a lot of spin before cutting the throttle. You won't get any flashing lights because the dim is shot.

Shame you don't live closer south, I'll have a crack at it for ya.

    That's a 360 mile round trip mate

I wouldn't charge as there's no guarantee of success but I'd be willing to have a stab at it. There's a good chance it'll all work again for an undecided amount of time. BUT there's a chance it won't fix anything and a small chance it'll make things worse.

I'm near Brum in West Midlands so I'm aware it's a jaunt but I could give it a shot one day, what you reckon?

It's worth a try isn't it.... Only thing is I've fixed suspension, AWD and serviced the B5254T4 but never removed the clocks

2 x T25 torx screws under the steering cowl.
Pop - off the top of the steering cowl,
dig fingers in at bottom of clock facia and pull hard.
4 x T25 torx screws holding the clocks in and one 14 pin connector.

That's it. 5 minute job. Just don't disconnect the clocks without disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours first or you'll throw another fault code

If you're happy spending £100 in petrol on the chance of having it work then it's worth a go. I'll even cook you dinner lol.

Just remember - if it does work (which it should, to one degree or another) there's no saying how long it'll last. You may be better off taking it to a tv repair shop and having them do it for about £40, I can show you which chip to get them to resolder (if they'll do it - some places won't touch stuff like this)

There's a guy who advertises DIM repairs on eBay - he has an excellent reputation across the forums (inc. VPCUK).

He charges £70 inc P&P and gives a 2 year guarantee on his work - even offers a 'loan' Instrument Cluster to keep you on the road if necessary.

Whoa whoa whoa - £100 quid to do 360 miles??!! Please tell me your car does more than 36 miles average to a tenner on a motorway run :p

Ok well is rather someone look at it who has done these before... So if you can have a pop ill come down one weekend.

So I take it that no component itself actually fails? It's simply soldering on a chip that fails?
    Sorry, nothing Swedish here...
