    S60 R @ Mill Garages - Health Check results

Hi, my 2003 S60 R had a Health Check and Mill found all is well but the car needs the following, as written from their Sales invoice, doing...

1 Front Drive shafts require bonding to cure noise when turning 1.0vst £150+vat
    2 Advise Cambelt £400+vat
3 Turbo Control Valve required £110.40+vat
4 Front Tyres have conflict with arch Liner - common fault with R - Mill advise spacers but offered no price?

Had ECM upgrade whilst getting Health Check, £110+vat, now car now has no flat spot ( did not know it had a flat spot until I got it back and drove it) better mpg and has even increased acceleration; very happy.

Any information on the above ie online parts available/alternative (can another garage do it cheaper or do I stick with Mill and pay loads etc etc) would be great thanks

The Turbo control valve cost me I think about 30 from FRF Volvo, I fitted it myself it's really really easy to do, don't get ripped off with those prices
    Thanks

Also I wouldn't have thought you needed spacers or it would have came from the factory with that, I would think you need new bump stops
    Thanks

£400 + VAT for cambelt seems a bit steep doesn't it? Just had mine done (2.4 T5)with specialist indie for £370 inc Vat, and that included an oil seal from somewhere nearby that was spraying oil directly onto the belt. They really had the car in bits for that, so 400 plus seems a bit rich. R can't be that much different can it??

I would assume you mean steering limiters, spacers will help but the limiters are plastic & bolt to the steering arms iirc. Last I checked about £20 from ebay. Spacers can be about £30 but watch that you get a set that allow the retaining bolt on the brake disc.

Uprated tcv's are available online too, also replace all the rubber hoses with silicone when you do it! Cheap to get & it will last longer.

Also check that the rub plates behind the wheels at the front are properly placed, as thats what they rub on!

You think I know **** nothing! But let me tell you I know **** all!

Thanks Badger, will sort the bump stops out, check the rub plates and order from ebay as suggested.

Ordered new HD TCV from Parts for Volvo http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/...oducts_id=6448 for £103 delivered. I hope it comes with new silicone hoses too

It's not going to be bump stops but steering limiters. They look like small metal plates with an odd plastic chunk stuck on them. These come in a variety of colours which allow a differing amount of steering lock & turning circle. This will wear down & your wheels will touch the wear plates in the arches. If this happens then your tyres will wear down on the inside edge at speed if they rub for too long.

Volvo may supply new rubber hoses, but do remember that one of the hoses plugs directly onto the turbo which can easily glow if you're pushing it for long enough! Silicone will survive 180c without even a mark but I'll bet the rubber hoses at the moment will be fit for the bin, they perish at the ends.

Came across your post by chance. I had two S60R's from Mill over a six year period. I live 10 miles from Tees side but based on my experience I would not even ask Mill Stockton to even wash the car. My very first Volvo (a V70) came from them and eventually had to go back to Volvo to have all the problems they had caused sorted.

On the other hand Mill Sunderland are probably the best garage on the planet and worth every extra mile to get there. If its not too late I would take it to them and do whatever they say. They are just quietly courteous, highly professional and a joy to deal with. I moved on when Volvo abandoned the performance awd market but look forward to going back soon.
