Unhappy It had to happen, Gearbox troubles on 1999 V70R AWD

V70R has been playing up a bit, just of late. Clunky gear engagement between reverse and drive, harsh down shift every so often at low speeds and once completely blacked out the car on tight corner and today had a lack of drive, yet taken out late on was back to normal.

Fault codes 0000 1332 0785 0717 have been cropping up on a regular basis since the problem has started to arise

Any ideas folks ????? ( other than get a very large bank loan or pray I win the lottery.... lol )

P0000 is a bit odd, maybe theres a fault in the read somewhere. What code reader are you using? 1332 is the camshaft position sensor, 0785 is a gearshift solenoid malfunction (not sure which one, a google search says 3rd to 2nd), 0717 is a speed sensor signal fault in the gearbox.

It may be completely irrelevent, but Peanut1's P2 T5 auto box was acting up since he bought it and although a fluid flush/change improved things, it wasn't until another fault cropped up that led to a new alternator being fitted that the box now seems to have sorted itself out!

May be worth having the alternator checked out maybe?

Anybody recommend a good Indie volvo specialist in shropshire or mid wales area,as the local main stealer, who I held in high a steam, has let me down and I really have to sort this gearbox, before it is beyond repair ?

Check if yours is an AW50-42 or AW55-50. Both can be repaired, you just need to get the right guy to do it.

I am sorry to hear this. My own experiences with A/W boxes are that they are not easily repaired. I had a AW50-42 on my 855R - cost me over 1000 quid to get it done & it was never quite right. My advice would be to seek a 2nd hand unit, a lottery in itself.

Everyone here knows I use HLM pretty much for everything other than the odd tyre change. I wouldn't trust my car with anyone else.

As far as I know its the AW55-50 adaptive box, not that I've really noticed what the difference is. As you said it's just a matter of finding the right person for the job and may be it's not as bad as it looks, but the gearbox is losing it's marbles, doing some quite bizarre changes and as for the silly dip stick, when you can find it and get to it, you pull it out and get a reading, put it back in and get a completely different one........well I will get it sorted one way or another.

was thinking manual 4wd would make it an amazing car to drive, but I'll try to get it sorted first and if all else fails it might have to become manual, but it certainly will not get broken, as it is far to nice for that at any cost ( well almost any cost....lol)
