C70 T5 me-7 ETM clean advice

Had a look this weekend at access to the ETM for removal to clean it up.
Not a lot of room either way so thinking of removing the inlet manifold to make it a lot easier.
Anyone done one of these lately and can give advice or tips? Just ordered an Inlet manifold gasket and ETM gasket from Volvo but really would like other views if you've done the job yourself

Why are you cleaning it? If it broken - particularly with the magneti marelli version, once the contact surface for the potentiometer starts to go - it will need to be replaced. Read this http://home.comcast.net/~donwillson/tech_info.html

Thankfully new ones are not as expensive as they used to be & you can get 2nd hand ones to work too.

If it's a bosch one, cleaning it can give better idle and throttle response. I did mine a while ago and it made a noticeable difference. Take the I/C to etm air pipe off, disconnect the cable and there's 4 bolts around the outside of where the air pipe mounts. You'll be working blind but you can easily get a socket on it (either 10mm or 13mm - can't remember) undo the bolts and just remove. there's plenty of space as the bosch ones aren't as big as the marelli ones.
then just give the inside and paddle a good clean with carb cleaner, clean the electrical contacts and Bob's yer granny...

It has the old hunting at idle syndrome, apart from that I works and runs sweet. I just thought a clean may do the trick as it seems to work for others.

I replaced mine 5 years ago (within 6 months of buying betsy back in 2007) - and the new one has not been reprogrammed & is still working - so I can't say for sure.
