Currently it's running on 205 50 16.
Thinking of changing to 205 55 16 extra load.
Is it a good idea or not.

Got an old discovery now.
Bit of a less bumpy ride. And filling out the arches without lowering.t
How will it affect the ride quality
i'd have a check on the inside of the fuel filler cap, i've got a feeling 205/55/16 is the original size
It's what I've been running on mine for 6 years now !
Old Car: 855 T5 in Grey and rust (dead and gone, well, most of it !
Missus' ride: Citroen C4 coupe 1.6 HDi,
Modifications: Nowt.....yet !
Daily driver: 855 R in Black,
Currently nursing a blown head gasket, new engine on its way !
Recent addition: Freshly imported Honda Stepwagon,
Slowly turning into a camper van !
So the filler cap says 205 50 16.
Getting back to changing the size. Wat to do.
Seems like there is a mix of tyres being run on the 850 out there.
To be honest I changed to that size for the same reasons as you have mentioned, the roads round my way are dreadful and having a slightly taller section made things a little more comfortable.

205/50 is the orig size unless you have 17" wheels.
If you change the aspect ration to 55 you wil have better comfort - dependingon tyre construction etc., lower revs at a given speed - possibly better fuel consumption depending on engine and transmission mods, and a speedo which reads on the low side but well withing the legal margin of error - just watch yourself near the speed limit.
The other difference is that 205/55 are more common than 205/50 so are cheaper to BUY!! That will prob be the main difference - the volume of sales to the mondeo/passat brigade keeps the cost down and heaven forbid if you are happy with ex-fleet tyre change second hand ones you could get some really good, low mileage, good brand tyres (say off the back of a company mondeo)for less than a brand new budget§§§§e 205/50
No-one here seems to have raised any major objections so it seems like a pretty good gamble to me.
Woz:>)
The
I have run the same size on my 855 too.
The only thing against that I can think of, is the speedo is slightly out.
Speedo shows 100 and true speed would be 103.35, due to the increased aspect ratio/20mm increase in diameter.
Not really a problem in the real world, eh?

Did you know the EU says that you can't claim that drinking water prevents dehydration. So now you know for sure what many of have known for years that the EU is run by a bunch of nutters.
My 850 AWD runs 205/55 R16 as standard. Don't think you'll have a problem.
