Stuck in park and looking for advice!!

    Hello,

I am a returner to VPCUK, I haven't been here for over three years and yesterday I returned home with a 1999 V70 SE 170bhp auto; lovely looking car in dark metallic blue and in very nice condition.

I drove it home, over 200 miles and it was faultless and yet this morning, the battery is completely flat and I cannot, whatever I do, shift the auto gear lever from park and into any other gear, forward or back.

Daft question I know, but would the flat battery have anything at all to do with this, or is there a possible problem with the release spring in the auto gear shift, the button under the top of the gear lever??

I would appreciate any advice or comment as I have not come across this before.

    Many thanks,

    James.

you need to press the shift lock button with the ignition on and your foot on the footbrake

Fantastic, thank you. Can you explain why this is the case, is it a security measure?
