i've had my D5 a few years now & its fantastic. They do have quite a few common problems but you can fall lucky like myself & not get hit with too many of them.

DMF = dual mass flywheel, give it a good thrash it the car vibrates hand it back & RUN
DIM = driver instrument module (or dials to me & you), very very & you'll soon know about it because your message screen (& others) will be doing weird & wonderfull things. You might be lucky & be able to resolder the dry joints on the board, if not its £700 from the main stealer

sure theirs more than that, but can't think of them. When they are working tho you won't be disappointed

Great car but like Pedro said, the DIM can be the end of these (btw - they sorted the DIM issue in 2004 )
Also the mixer pipe gets coked up. it's easy but really messy to sort...

First thing ,has the cam belt been done?,has the clutch been done as the slave cylinder can fail when the miles are up on it.
The rest other problems as listed, have a good look at the history and with any luck your have a good one.

it is a fairly high miler but has near enough a full volvo service history and i understand the belts ect where done around 21k ago.

ive heard about the DIM issue a few times on here im just crossing my fingers this doesnt occur.

And by the way i love it its smooth comfy and has a decent amount of poke too (im thinkin of a remap at some stage) im also impressed with the mpg with it being a 2.4.

thanks for all your help guys.

we've got 2 S60 D5's in our house, & both have had DIM issues. Luckily my bro's very good with a soldering so managed to repair both (ok i've got no clock or temp) but shows they can be fixed cheaply. Mines got 184k miles & still got 71.4mpg on the run down to Southampton yesterday

    .
Yo may be lucky, it may have already been repaired. If it has chrome rings around the dials, it has been fixed by Volvo.

Don't read too far into this tho, not all of them fail (mine did, Pedro had 2 go, Porcine Aviator, D2K and several members who joined, asked about their DIM and were never seen again)
Although Volvo Europe/UK have never admitted that there is a reliability issue with these things. Probably why it costs £732.50 to get it sorted and they didn't even have the decency to screw the new one in place. Jobsworths!

I'm not still bitter about it - honest

obviously that wasn't rushing around, but still mainly doing around 65-70mph. Think my usual mpg is 50.5mpg, which is a combination of city & short runs

    Hahahaha Well Fingers Crossed.

also it is well specced car phone, parking sensors ect ect, which all seem to work only thing is the heated seats dont and also the steering wheel buttons for the phone and sterio dont either. i havnt checked fuses yet and im hoping that it will just be that but if not any ideas on what the problem may be?

Does the cruise control work? (press "cruise" then press "+" to activate, it takes a second or so to respond so don't tap it or push too hard.)
If not there's probably a dodgy connection somewhere. If it does, you either have a dodgy connection or a different steering wheel.

Careful, making these things "tip-top" can become an obsession (I should know lol)

well apart from these little niggles it is spot on and the actual condition of the exterior and interior is like its a year old! it drives spot on and everything else works (touch wood) apart from the mentiond.

i will put some pics on soon as im just at work at the moment.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

    Nice colour
Is that a beige dash I see? What colour are the seats? they look black, which would be a weird combination I know but one I'm kinda familiar with...
