    Fan

went out tonight and gave the awd a good thrashing down the a55 just for 15mins. parked up and the fan stayed on for about 5 mins....thermostat is ok and water coolant levels fine. just thinking is this normal and do these engines run very hot?

    cheers

If the engine is very hot, then the fan can come on for a while even though the engine is off. If you do go out for a good drive try to drive slowly for a few minutes before you park up and then give it a couple of mins to cool down before you turn the engine off.

Remember that turbos can get very hot.

The fan being on can also be a sign of there being a problem of some sort and the ecu doing what it can to protect the engine. See if you can get the codes read, incase there was a problem at some point during your "spirited" drive.

Is the temperature gauge reading normal (usually about 3 o clock on the gauge)?

Really it shouldn't dip, don't think mine ever has on long journeys, only when I had a thermostat and temperature sender problem did the gauge move about.

There could be a problem somewhere then. I've never had the fans stop on after I've really caned it, not even when my gasket had gone and then expansion tank was whistling.
