Question How to fit a MBC thingy...

    Hi peeps,

Had a wierd one this avo - tried to fit a MBC to my car and it only made it worse. Car is standard, no map, filter or rip kit.

I've seen one routed in along side of the standard Volvo BCS and seen people saying that the MBC completely replaces the BCS. Tried to fit one off Dalhousie's Gul to my car - only made things worse. Tried another MCB (with only 2 pipes, not 3) and could not get it to go better.

Please, what am I doing wrong and does anyone have any pictures or diagrams of one fitted?

The 3 port mbcs are usually bleed valves which are usually worse than the 2 port mbcs. The 2 port mbc uses a spring to hold back the pressure until it reaches the limit and forces its way through to the wastegate actuator.

You can put it inline (2 port mbc) with the factory BCS but it makes it harder to control the boost spikes.

But there also different types, do you have a pic of the ones you've tried to fit?

I fitted an RSpec one to mine ages ago, and here's the fitting diagram (a little basic, but its to the point)

as above, but just to add if your running a standard ecu then your gonna hit boost cut at just under 15psi so i would suggest turn the mbc down and trying that and to be fair you should really fit a boost gauge first so you can get the most out of it

    full respray..plenty of body mods..comets..ray cat back noise pipe..decat and wrapped downpipe..me7 exhaust manifold..3" throttle body with ported inlet manifold..blue injectors..adjustable fuel reg..reverse intercooler pipework..19t..open cone air filter..255 fuel pump..m-r-p short shift..boost gauge..unknown remap..adjustable suspension..lightweight crank pulley..n/a cams..stripped out interior..and a heavy right foot

1st u need a propper boost gauge installed and then connect mbc as above and c what boost u running, wiv standard map u can probably get a safe 12-14psi depends on before fuel cut.

Think I need to turn it down a bit but have got it working a treat now - thanks all, especially Rob for his help AND the MBC

Be careful you don't get over excited. The temptation to over tighten your MBC will grow with time. MBC does not alter your AFR so as the boost pressure increases so you mixture will lean up. There is a risk you will either melt internals or bend them.

Thanks for the advice chaps - I am going to have a tinker next week and back it off a little as I have had the fuel cut chip in once and I am being careful with the loud pedal too!
