'Squeak Squeak from the Back Seat'

Well, I have a really annoying squeaking coming from the back seat on the passenger side. I think it's got something to do with the part that clamps the back lumber area to the metal hook that the seat clamps on to and allows the back seats to recline into one of the two positions (sorry I'm hopeless with the exact technical terms for the parts).

It's an annoying sound, most problematic over uneven roads and drives passengers insane too. Even with someone sitting in the seat, it still squeaks! I'm wondering whether I need to tighten something or maybe grease it up with some WD40 (or both!).

Anyway, wiggling the seats with the car parked up yields no squeaks so tracking the exact part that's making the noise is gonna be tricky.

    Regards

    James

James, I had a very similar noise from my back seat, was on the drivers side though, it was indeed the hook where the seat clamps into, to be honest I have never really looked into the cause I have simply 'unclipped' the seat and left it, no one ever notices even when I do carry passengers in the back, may be worth a try.

It sounds similar to two bottles of fizzy pop rubbing together if you get that sound...?

I'm keen to go out with a torx set or screwdriver set and declare war on my squeak! It wasn't there when Volvo built it so why on earth should I (and my passengers), live with it now. I'll do some investigating on my next day off from work and see what I can find.

Found the problem, there were 16 mice living under the seat and they went absolutelty mental each time I drove over a rough road.... Ok, I'm kidding

I'll let you know if I find anything of interest, like a loose screw or a worn clamp or something.

Put electricians tape around the bracket that the seat locks on to, see if that helps. It did with my P1 V70 some years back
    Thankyou, Goodnight....much love

Drop the back seats and go for a drive, that should tell you if its the seat back fixings.

I did this the last couple of days and the squeaking has gone whilst the seat is down so I now know it's definately the seat clamp. I'm going to try the electrical tape or some WD-40.

get a can of silicone spray, just don't get on fabric or visible leather (wipe off if you do get any on visible leather, but it will still make leather very very very slippery, brilliant fun if you want to watch MIL go skating across back of car when you go round a corner ), blitz everything, far cleaner than WD40 etc for internal stuff in car, used to work wonders on creaking motion furniture
