I have been taking advantage of the fine evenings this week and this afternoon, finally fired up the whole system.
Brief summary:
DLS Iridium 6.3i 3 way components (6.5" mid-bass in custom pods breathing in to the door, 3" sealed mids in the OE position and tweeters in the A pillar).
Twin 8" Sundown Audio V1 subs in a self built ported box tuned to 35Hz.
DLS A5 Ultimate 3 channel amp.
No rear speakers.
I set everything flat on the equalisers and time allignment and set the front to play 80Hz up and the subs, 80Hz down (using the Alpine CD players internal crossovers.
I put an Infected Mushroom CD in and chose a track that starts quietly but with a good imaging tune that is thenslowly built up to a crescendo of deep and fast bass.........OH......MY......GOD!
I nearly wet my pants! The sound is quite like nothing else I have heard and it still can get better! The bass is nothing short of phenomenal. Such is the depth and intensity of the bass, that I could feel it altering my ability to breath normally and it was simply down to the amount of bass, not the sheer volume! I couldn't see out of the rear view mirror either, such was the resonating vibrations!
So today, I am happy! I have the basis of not only a very high quality sound but also the ability to plumb the depths of loud and very solid bass! Not everyones cuppa but I guess its like having a car that will do 150mph...you probably will rearely do that speed but there is a distinct satisfaction of knowing that you could!
Next stage is the tuning of the system and I have acquired a brand new Real Time Analyser which will allow me to understand the charcteristics of the car and the system and how they can work together. It will show me in real time, where the peaks and troughs are with regards to frequency responses and tune the roughness out of it. Ultimately of course, my ears (if I don't blow them in the meantime) will be the final judge.
After that, I have 2 more DLS amps to swap for the single A5. A DLS A6 for sub duties which will double the wattge to close to 1200watts for the subs and an A3 dual mono for the front stage........
I hope to get along to some meets soon to show it off!
