    Unhappy Revs not dropping when changing gear

    Hi, I`ve had this problem for a while now and it`s now getting on my nerves. When I change gear the revs "hang" at what they where when I changed gear. The revs drop after about 2-3 seconds if you hold the clutch down. I`ve had this problem on the old engine as well, So I`ve checked for air leaks all ok, cleaned the idle control valve and fitted a new inlet manifold gasket.

    Could it be down to the fact I`m running blue injectors and it`s over fueling ??

    Any ideas ???

    Blues fuel the same as white on the same pressure.

    It does sound like an air leak or such

    You can try my ecu again to rule that out if you like later.

    It does it with the RICA 304 and the HLM 304 so I dont think it`s an ECU problem.

    i dont know if its coinsedence but mine used to that and got it worse and worse to point when i shut off the car would accelerate randomly,trust me its a scary thing when your slowing for traffic!!! anyway i done the usual icv,pipe work,and checking for leaks but it turns out it was the clutch!! i cant explain how or why but i had a new clutch fitted and it stopped??? it needed a new one anyway so i had it done and when i did hey presto.


    full respray..plenty of body mods..comets..ray cat back noise pipe..decat and wrapped downpipe..me7 exhaust manifold..3" throttle body with ported inlet manifold..blue injectors..adjustable fuel reg..reverse intercooler pipework..19t..open cone air filter..255 fuel pump..m-r-p short shift..boost gauge..unknown remap..adjustable suspension..lightweight crank pulley..n/a cams..stripped out interior..and a heavy right foot

    have you cleaned your throttle body?

    The TB was cleaned when it was fitted.

    im sure i read somewhere that the manual ecu is supposed to hold the rev's between gear changes to help smooth gear change's and if you put an auto ecu in a manual the rev drop as soon at you let off the pedal.

    sounds like air leak,
    the pipe under the inlet manifold,on the left as you look at it,tucked between the stat and manifold,

    Mine used to do that. I can't pin point what it was though as when I was trying to find my misfire issue I cleaned EVERYTHING with carb cleaner and it stopped it almost. Just does it when cold now.

    Mine does the same, hangs at revs for a couple of seconds before dropping. Volvo told me to clean the throttle, sticky throttle. Not so sure though.

    When I fitted my 3 inch TB it was cleaned, opened and shut ok. still trying to find what the problem is.

    i've had this for a while and it turned out to be the large pcv pipe had split/snapped inside of the protective padding @ the pct endrendering it vertually impossible to find. good old gaffer tape is keeping it going i have a new pcv system and 3" throttle body to fit am waiting to do at same time when i can figure out how i'm going to route the icv. hope this helps

    How can you tell if the idle control valve is faulty ?

    take off the idle control valve and shake it you should hear similar to an aerosol can with the ball inside!! if its not rattling then unleash a can of carb spray into the little §§§§§§ and shake it again you should hear the free moving donk donk donk donk if not keep doing it,and if all that fails then replace with new lol hope this helps mate...ignore my clutch comment that was completely different problem lmao i was having a blonde moment when i posted that!!!
