    Had an embarrassing moment today!

Got stuck behind some prat driving up a slip road and attempting to join a motorway at just under 40mph earlier today! What is wrong with these people!?

Anyway, when clear, I pulled out and accelerated hard past him giving him a dutiful toot on the horn! Continued accelerating to about 75mph when a loud 'POP' occurred, LOTS of black smoke out the back and no power! Yes, a hose clamp holding an intercooler pipe broke and pipe popped off!!

I pulled over on the hard shoulder and yes...I got tooted by the old fart I'd just whizzed past! Real head in hands moment!!

I bet he was thinking that will teach him, these young whipper snappers going at top speed. If I had my way I'd have them off the road whine, moan gripe etc.

I had the same kind of thing on the way back from Cadwell Park back in Feb. Overtook then loud bang, hazards and stopped at the side of the road!

To be fair, I thought I'd popped the engine! Never had a boost pipe go before (on petrol or diesel) and the loss of power was that harsh it was like hitting a brick wall!! Coupled to the black smoke of doom in my mirror, I thought it was toast!!

A new hose clip later and I've just completed an 80 mile drive to Frome with no probs!! Even over took 3 captain slows, though I did have to think about it!!

Several years ago a friend of mine had a 'spirited drive' between his 450bhp R33 GTR and a Cossie. He pee'd all over the Cossie big time only to have a boost pipe blow off! 3 days later the Cossie driver was in a pub telling a guy about this Skyline he'd raped in a race which died! Un be-known to him, the guy he was talking to knew the Skyline driver. Oh how we laughed when that got back to him.

    lol

this is volvo related but only just.....

last week I pulled a tesco carrier bag out of the back of my volvo which was full of loose change, walked into ASDA with the intention of pouring the loose change from the bag into the cash converter machine (not sure its called that, but its the coin counting machine that I cringe at when it makes "that" counting noise)

Anyway as I'm passing the customer service section I look down and, as if in slow motion, I see the bag split and Ł43 worth of loose change explode all over ASDA......well embarrasing......

Anyway I'm on my knees trying to pick it all up, this guy comes up to me and says..."serves you right for shopping at Tesco"

actually typing that up was quite theraputic as I'm still having flash backs lol

I had an intercooler hose pop off on a Skoda VRS once and the problem was not with the hose but the intercooler had cracked! I'd get this checked out asap as you can clog up your particulate filter if you have one plus ruin the catalytic converter if you have one too.

You might have an expensive bill though, I think an intercooler is like Ł400+!

    Good luck!

    Regards

    James

The one and only time the father in law used the f-word was when I did my pcv and took him out for a test drive. I came off a roundabout in 2nd and nailed it up to 60. When i let off to change to 3rd... POP-chug chug stall start chug chug. "wtf" from the passenger seat. This had happened before so I smiled and asked him to get the tools out the boot.

Lucky for me, it's definitely just a failed hose clip. My own fault really! Did an EGR elbow clean a few months back and when I put that clip back on I noted that it was badly corroded and couldn't get as much torque on it as I'd have liked! I still fitted it anyway and made a mental note 'I'll replace that at some point'. Well, I've replaced it now!!
