    Question Uneven REAR tyre wear on offside - opinions needed..

    I have been sent this query by a friend. Any thoughts?

    The rear tyres of my 855 T5 have excessive wear on the inner half of the
    tread, more so on the off-side rear. My specialist Volvo garage, Sheffield
    and Meredith of Leicester, cannot see any obvious reason why. I have taken
    the car to a four wheel drive alignment centre and they have said the wheels
    are properly aligned. The problem is that their tests only measure the wheel
    alignment in the horizontal plane.

    The pattern of tread wear on the OSR appears to indicate that the wheel is
    leaning inwards slightly, causing wear to concentrate on the inner half of
    the track. The NSR tread has the same wear indications, of excessive wear on the inside half, but is not as bad.

    Any advice or recollection from your experience on this problem would be
    gratefully received. The car is an 855 T5, P reg., and has done 282k miles.
    T5's are known for front tyre wear and I have vaguely heard of excessive
    rear wheel tyre wear but not like this.


    Over to you. My hunch is that it could be anything from a broken ARB to worn bushes, a bent arm, knackered bearings etc. If you have any experience of this issue, please do contribute

    Yep the camber is out, Very common to have inner edge tyre wear on estate vehicles as there suspension generally has a harder life.

    The rear delta links bushes and also rear shock could probably do with being replaced and the camber checked and adjusted if required.

    Rover 75 estate are very heavy on the inner edges to.

    Thanks guys. It seems to tie in with opinions I'm getting elsewhere too - that camber issues are being caused by worn bushes etc. cheers.
