Is it a one man job

to take the front doors off?

I need to get access to the inner surfaces of the door and car to fix another grommety cable thingymabob in place and if its easy to unhang/rehang the door, thats what I would like to do.

I am guessing its heavy so will have a bunch of carpet underlay to lower it on to (just had bedroom carpet done which is handy!).

I can see a couple of star type bolt heads on the hinge mechanisms.....are these part of the removal procedure?

Also, the cable management collar on the car body, looks like a star key to release and then a big collar to twist and pull.......

Any hints would be most appreciated!

Having done this job myself I would say that you definitely need two people to do it. The doors are heavy but the worse part is that they are not evenly weighted. I make and fit furniture for a living and am comfortable with shifting heavy items but the doors are a tad awkward. Better to be comfortable than drop it on the floor!

Your correct about the "star bolts" and the cable but don't forget the door retaining strap as well.

Yeah I'd say so. I've changed doors on a Rover 800 without a trolley jack before now and I did it on my own.

what claymore said...........undo checkstrap and wiring first .............loosen star bolts.......................put a jack under door on something soft.............raise jack...........door off...........i found it easier to refit doors on my own without jack...............hope this helps

Took my drivers door off on my own, very straight forward just had something on the floor to put it on quick!!
The wind cought my door and poped one of the spot welds on the retaining strap bracket so had to re-weld it.

It certainly be done on your own, however it depends on your size and strength but it is certainly easier with 2 or a trolley jack.

Park under a tree, rope through the window and over a branch....sorted. Tree can be replaced by any overhead weight-bearing structure.

    Love it Stephen!
As iy turned out, I didnt need to remove the doors as managed to drill from the inside out to run the grommet tube out of the car and then cut in to the existing cable boot so all good!

Thanks for all the advice though guys.
