Gave the S60 a 'quick clean'...

....well actually, it's taken ALL WEEKEND!!!

Got home from work on Friday and thought I'd give the car a wash - which led to clay barring. At 22:15 I decided it was getting a bit late and knocked it on the head. Saturday morning, I was straight up and finished the claying and gave it another wash ready for 2 days of detailing!

Clayed, washed and ready to go

Some scratches on the bonnet that the previous owner decided to smother with touch up

    Damage on the N/S mirror

Then proceeded to the cutting stage. I tried 4 different Menzerna passes as well as 3M and Liquid Shine products but nothing touched the deeper scratches and swirls caused by years of sponge washing and car washes!!! I'll have another crack at a later date with a rotary instead of my DAS6 Pro dual action.

I did however get brave with some P1500 wet & dry on the touch up that had been applied with a roller!

Sun lotion finger prints on the rear quarter (I'm pleased to say I managed to remove these)

So, all cut as best I could and looking better. That's as far as I went on Saturday, stopped at 16:30 and went out for a beer or 8!

Stayed with friends over night so had to get home before I could start again but once I did, I got cracking with polish (Super Resin Polish) glaze (Poor Boys Black Hole) sealant (Carlack68) and wax (Collonite 476S) Then finished it all of by dressing the tyres, trims and arch liners (Chemical Guys trim gel) and cleaned the glass.

    Finished

    Nice reflections!

    Bonnet scratches all but gone

Engine bay cleaned a few weeks back

With some bumper scuffs painted and some paintless dent removal done, it'll be near mint. All paint is original, the car has never seen a body shop which is nice.

    Hope you like.

Awesome - full respect to you. I finally grown a pair myself today & made a start on the many stone chips in the bonnet. I flattened with 2000 grit - filled with the Volvo touch in paint. Tomorrow I will flat them again & see if my rotary skills will deliver the finish back to how it was.

Red is not an easy colour to get good - so top marks to you. Depth & wetness are really cracking there.

I had a go at repairing a stone chip on my Dad's (Doorman) silver V70 R. It was quite a big one, 3-4mm in diameter but had no luck. Look forward to seeing your results. I've got plenty on chips on the front end that are now magnified by the product left behind in them and the nice shiny paint around them!

Not all good news - the chips are less obvious & I was able to easily remove the wet sanding mark. The gash on my new rear bumper has not come back as well as I'd hoped. I over did the wet sanding on the top coat either side of where I filled it with touch-paint & now have a shiny cloud, with a line down the middle.

That's a shame Dave. I'm going to leave my bumper scuffs to a smart repairer I think. They weren't in the pictures on the advert so I wasn't best pleased to see them after 1hr 45mins drive!! Kudos on the stone chips though. I might just have a go at mine one day.

Martin, shiny rules...I like shiny!! No no, I LOVE shiny!!

It's never good enough though. I've been looking at it today finding loads of stuff I've missed. I am trying to convince myself it doesn't matter and to get over it. After all, the car doesn't have the luxury of a garage to live in, it's a daily drive and spends its week days parked in an über dusty car park at work.

I know I'll break and start all over again sooner or later though. At least I've got a good base to work with!

My phone ran out of charge so I don't have the finished photos - only the 1/2 way ones (only the last bumper shot is the finished result - deliberately left the 50p sized cloud on the NS out of shot)
