205 seems a bit skinny for the size and weight of your car, I'd go with 225/40/17's personally. Not sure what was on the V70 was as OEM, but even the Cougar had 215's as standard (now 225's on mine.) I'm sure the Volvo experts will be able to advise you better than I can.

That is the standard size tyre that they come in, on the 7.0j comets.

I'd go for larger, just for the looks as i always thought they looked a bit skinny on my s70r.

205/45/17 was fitted to all 7j comets on the S/V70R's

225/45/17 was fitted to the 7.5j comets fitted to the C70's

So it's confirmed the standard size is 205x45x17 (thanx Chad & Liam) but can I go larger ? If so which size ? I don't want any rubbing lol

Sorry for all the questions, tyre size's not my strong point.....except 295x70x22.5

I was told that 215s would fit on fine, but they weren't so sure about 225s on the 7js.

As an all weather tyre i thought the avon directional tyres were very good (sorry, can't remember the exact name), downsides is that they didn't seem to last that long and they seem to tram line a fair bit.

Have contisport 3s on my car at the minute, plenty of grip but seem very soft so doubt they'll last long, not as good as the avons were in the wet.

Allways though that yokohama made very good tyres, but been a while since i'v had any, so can't recommend a current tyre.

If 205/45/17's were fitted as standard on the V70, then 225/40's would keep your rolling radius about the same, 225/45's would make the speedo over read, i.e it would say you're going slower than you actually are, although as it under reads anyway, it may make it more accurate.

225's will fit a 7j rim (I have them on my Cougar), as for rubbing you may need new steering rack limiters.

Would 225/40's not have cleared the arches? With 35 profile tyres you must have a really comfy ride.

the speedo already over reads by 1 mph with 35 tyres as opposed to 6 mph with 45 17's on it would be way out with 40's on and look rubbish to and would still rub the arches lol

I run 215/45/17 and still had to put thicker steering rack stops on to stop them rubbing the arch liners, I'm up for a new set of rubber soon so I'll watch this thread and see if it's still the best option?
