LED Side, Puddle & Plate Lights

Been doing a fair bit of the 'Buy it Now' on eBay over the Bank Holiday Weekend for LED's, well they've all turned up & it would be rude not to fit them immediately.

Firstly, I thought I'd start behind the ol' girl as I wasn't happy with this....

    So in went this...

I noticed the plastic bulb holder had turned very brittle & would perhaps put it down to the 501's knackering the plastic ??!!??

    Number plate now looks like......

Next was the puddle lights. Did a quick search and found out that the bulb holders are removed by tilting the mirror up and inwards which reveals a small tab on the holder, pressing the tab with a driver allows it to drop down out of the mirror housing.

Making sure that the LED is in the correct way round before reinserting the bulb holder into the door mirror.

A quick shufty to the front to do the sidelights, opted for a 9 LED bulb for the fronts...

Could'nt believe the difference the LED's made, now a very bright, crisp white light.

A quick vid walkaround (in the rain) to show the results....

I also bought some Osram Diadem bulbs for the indicators, I wanted to get rid of the orange glow that shows through the lenses. To be honest, these Osrams replace the orange glow with a blue/purple glow and I'll probable replace them with some Silvatec bulbs.

HID's are next on the shopping list.

They look really good, one question though did changing any of these throw up any bulb failure warnings on the dashboard?

Just had my led sidelamps out of the front of mine,as one had stopped working, due to the heat from the h7's drl, the had become completely brittle and fell apart on me, taken 6 months to do that though!

My DRL's have been disabled, I presumed the DRL's used the 501 capless bulbs. I should imagine it wouldn't stop prolonged use of the dipped beam at night weakening the LED. I'll be gutted if I find them in fragments rattling around in my headlamp

I've read on another other forum about a member who fitted LED's to the front sidelights on their C70 that ended up 'staining' the reflector. Has anyone else experienced this?

Should I stop worrying and just enjoy??

Looks good. I did the same on
My V50. My number plate LEDs are so bright they light up the bumper and the floor behind!
Used the same indicator bulbs too , I like the blue glow.

Might be tempted to do the puddle and number plate ones on mine. Dunno if I'll try with the side lights though as I can't see how to access them on mine easily due to the HIDs :-(

Do the interior lights too, mine look so much better than original, and they still dim slowly when you close the doors.

Replaced the Osram Diadem bulbs today with some dubiously packaged Silvatec bulbs, they're totally invisible behind the lens and flash orange when needed, not as bright as the Osrams but they do the trick.

    eBay linky to Silvatec bulbs

To get clear access to the n/s/f indicator, I find it 100% easier to remove the airbox but found the 3 'tulip' style clips that secure the airbox almost impossible to unclip without nearly breaking them.

I found that if you get a 10mm socket on an extension and push down on the clip whilst gently pulling up on the airbox, they release perfectly. (Obviously pictured after the airbox has been removed)

Top tip or just plain common knowledge & I'm stupid ??!!!??

that's a residual glow and not uncommon. a resistor across the the terminals will sort it (2.2k for interior lights, probably the same for sidelights)
