I have been advised that the plumes of blue smoke after prolonged idling are a problem with the oil seal on the Turbo, so I've bought another '96 T5 with 180000 on the clock to nick the Turbo, re-build it and put it onto mine.

In the future, I would like to re-map or do something to increase the horses a little, maybe around the 250-260 mark, as long as it can be kept reliable and strong, and also with a moderate budget. I'd alsp like to improve the handling a little without losing too much comfort and I'm planning some Amalthea wheels as the only external modification.

Anyone have any advice about any of the above - power increase, handling, oily smoke?

    Gratefully appreciated...

yeah mate - the bug has bit alright!! I was considering getting a Mk3 Golf VR6 last year and then was given the T5. At first, i was going to sell it and put the funds towards a VR but as I started doing a few tidy up jobs, I got to see how much better the Volvos are made than the VW's - so I was hooked.

Love the size, love the comfort, love the power!

Sound advice - would you recommend any particular route to aim for - 2nd hand T5R suspension or is there a good after-market option?

    Hello and

“If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as the souls who live under tyranny.” Thomas Jefferson (1778)

Did you know the EU says that you can't claim that drinking water prevents dehydration. So now you know for sure what many of have known for years that the EU is run by a bunch of nutters.

Excellent - thanks. Strut brace is on the list of things to do ASAP as should be cheap-ish. Will keep an eye out for the roll-bar, dampers and springs over time.

Anyone got a strut brace they don't need any more......?
