Great cars - not the best looking IMHO - however there are some 13 different computers onboard IIRC - ask Lance. Be 100% certain that they all work & there are no electrical gremlins before you buy - otherwise it can be a bit of a mare.

Not seen many tuned. I would expect to see over 300 bhp for a tuned one, in good working order.

They're a nice car, its not a car that you would probably buy to go mental with the tuning, I would have one and remove the badges but im too young for all that yet.
    Thanks

The boxes do have a bad reputation, although plenty of people have and love them... I guess it's a matter of pot luck.

Consensus is remap is as much as you want to do otherwise the box just won't handle it.

The early 5spd gaytronics are supposed to be quite weak and it was because of the box that the torque was limited in the early s60/v70r gaytronics.(258lb/ft compared the manuals 300lb/ft)

That's true S60R with auto runs the 1/4 in a time measured in seasons rather than seconds.

    http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...s-sedans-2.pdf

only 1 second and 3mph in it manual vs. manual... and the S60R is 4wd

I've personally seen standard Auto S60R's do the 1/4 in high 15's low 16's - which would make them slower than a stock S40 T5.

    http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/current/...sTechSpecs.pdf

quoted (manufacturer's figure) for the 5speed is 0-60 in a glacial 7.5 seconds! so if it ran the 1/4 exactly as quickly as a manual besides that, it would come in at 15.8 seconds - one suspects it would be slower still due to that box.

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7kf5V-F0oY[/ame] < not exactly brutal one has to say

Of course - the 6 speed isn't torque limited, so I think that would be closer to the manual and probably quicker than a stock S40 T5 on the 1/4 - but then it should be, easily, due to the launch 4wd provides.

As for comfort... I'm slim so I don't need those big seats in the S60 they are comfy tho.

S40 is different to S60 though - smaller, lighter, less comfy - guess it's what ure after.

    I've recently bought a 99' S80 T6.

They are a cruiser. Very quiet, very comfortable and rather rapid although you maybe dont notice how rapid till you check the speedo.

Easily remap to 320 odd horse apparently.

Dont have the growl of the T5 though, even with a powerflex top mount. Although at least I can actually just hear the engine doing its stuff now.

Still dont like auto boxes either, geartronic or otherwise. I cant get away from the lack of connection between the revs and the gear.

Still, looking forward to cruising across Europe in it later in the year. Its like sitting in an arm chair in your living room.

I can only re-iterate what everyone else has said.

It all depends what you want from the car really. The S80 T6 is a VERY comfy motorway cruiser, and it's brilliant at being that. But anything other than that, it's not much good. It's a big, heavy, wobbly, hideous lump of a car LOL! Lovely inside, but exterior is rank, although the facelift is a vast improvement over the early ones.

As the rest have said, the gearboxes are like chocolate. They go wrong in the T6's all the time, and it will write off an S80 no problem as they are so expensive to repair. Stay away from Geartronic, and just look at straight Auto's if you can find one.

I wouldn't even consider tuning one, as the gearbox will almost definitely let you down.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a T6. The S80 isn't a performance car, it's just a big cruiser, and the D5 is a much better option in every way IMHO.
