I think either will be fine. Yes the C70 arches are slightly bigger. You can wear slightly wider boots with them.

from the 2003 c70. They give off a lot more light than the originals, so theres no need to have hids, unless you really want to blind people. lol
The crystal lights don't give out any more light it's just that by now most original light units will have faded reflectors. Replacing them with original or crystal type will make a noticeable difference in light output due to pristine reflectors. I personally think the crystals are more attractive and in keeping with the cars appearance than the projector units. Also the levelling motors are included with the crystals. They quite literally are a straight swap for the originals. As far as HID goes I did say get a decent set. I bought my kit from HIDS4U and it included H7R bulbs not the vanilla H7. The H7R have a shield which shapes the light beam and prevents glare. They are designed to fit into reflector type headlights. The H7 HID should only be fitted into projector units.

I bought mine from Rufe, a member on here, back in 2008. Rufe (real name Simon) works for FRF-Volvo in Swansea and offers VPCUK.ORG members a good discount. I think the headlights, indicators and grille came to around £350 but that was 4 years ago.
You used to have to request a price from FRF via email but that became so long winded that they now deal with all enquiries over the phone. Ring 01792 310 999, ask for Simon or Mike and don't forget to mention this forum to get your discounted price.

Just another thing to consider, ordinary halogen bulbs burn very hot and uprated halogens say 100watt even hotter. This heat is the main cause for the reflectors becoming dim and inefficient. It's even worse on our cars fitted with daylight running lights so I've switched mine off. After 4 years my crystal lights with HID bulbs which burn a lot cooler, are still like new.
    Cheers.

If you fit HIDs - the headlight wash system has to work to pass the MOT - either that or you have to hide the ballast.

    Hi Dave.
I was a bit concerned about the first time I had my MOT after the HID install. I've used three different testing stations since I fitted them and my ballasts are in plain view in the engine bay. Nothing was mentioned and the car passed no problem. My headlamp washers do work but no one checked them. There are lots of regs concerning these lights such as the requirement for a self levelling and washing system. All each tester was concerned with was correct beam alignment. I've never been flashed by oncoming motorists whereas I'm often dazzled by many new cars including Audi's, BMW's and especially the Vauxhall Insignia's with OE projector headlights.
    Cheers.

I've got 7.5J Comets on my V70 with 225/45 tyres and they do rub ever so slightly on the front, this hasn't damaged the tyres in nearly a year of use so...

Mine's an AWD so the rear is slightly different and needed 15mm sparers to avoid catching the rear jack mounting bracket thingy bit, my car's a lot higher than yours so this set up would probably catch the rear arches

Indeed - I have good alignment & H7R bulbs in my HIDs - I don't get flashed at.

I still think I will need to fix the wash system though - at least that's what Billy said at HLM.

What's the point in running hid's in the main beam? You don't use main beam much, usually just to flash someone and hid's take a few seconds to warm up so not much point imo as you'd turn them off before they warmed up.

Only happens on the first time of turning them on - after that they're as good as gold.

Didn't say I had those ones, just that they exist, mine are low beam only
