    S60r fmic

well finally managed to get the intercooler sorted on my S60R as it was absolutely shot & by the look of it it should of been changed many moons ago
I took everyone's advice & went for the more efficient FMIC & it was just a universal jobby from the bay but does do the job well & has totally transformed the car as it pulls so much quicker & harder in every gear especially at top end,

It took me a full day to rip the old one out & make brackets & cut & join pipes so not to bad & well worth it as only cost me just shy of £180 for the intercooler/2.5" pipe kit,2 reducers & a silicone bend.

Next on my list is a sports cat & maybes a new map!

Here is the old completely goosed one, No wonder I was loosing boost its leaking all over & also on the cold side where the TB pipe joins to the intercooler there was a huge crack that went more than half the way round that opened bigger as the turbo boosted & was spraying oil everywhere.

And here is a shot of the new one just after fitting & a quick trial run

These are the bits I used,

The intercooler was a tight fit due to me having the older type condenser but got there in the end

I'm glad it worked out for you. That original intercooler was battered!

Wow good job, I wish I had the mechanical know to-do that!!

Did you cut and dress the slam panel next to the AC fill point?

How long did it take you?

Thanks & no I haven't done anything with the slam panel as of yet but plan to soon, It wasn't really that hard to do & took me about 9 hours in total!

I have just noticed your also from Northumberland, Where abouts are you from & nice to know there's another R nearby as haven't seen one around apart from once at Newcastle in Eversheds car park.

Mines is the only R in town, don't see them often in the toon either.

I did in the end. The 90 deg elbow was pinching slightly but the 135 deg elbow solved that issue.

Glad you got it sorted, can't believe the difference in performance it is unreal for something as simple as an intercooler, was expecting it to be more lagy with having fitted a larger thicker core but nope the turbo seems to spool up alot quicker & harder now!

Anyone thinking of doing this get it done you won't regret it

sold the sports cat but can def build another one if you ever wanted one. im getting a expert at fitting them. mines a doddle now. the biggest issue is the bolts that are in the turbo. the are prones to snapping. i had to remove my turbo and drill and tap it.(snaped by previous owner) it wasnt much fun. but if you are carful then theyll come out. prob best to soak them in wd40 every day for a week befor removing them.

no probs with intercooler pipe. im starting to set my self up with weld and fab gear again. everything i do is at work at the minute
