New to me S80 T6 problems already

Hi all not been here for a few years but got another Volvo. I had a 53 plate S60 T5 about 4 years ago. We have a child with a few disabilities and decided to get a new motability car 3 years ago.

The motability car is due to go back at the end of May so I needed to get a cheapish car to keep us on the road.

    Well I collected a 99 S80 T6 yesterday with 146k and pretty much fsh.

Popped out today and all was good then all of a sudden the emmisions light came on at the same time as transmission requires urgent service message.

Car still drove fine home but just stuck in third.

I have had a look through a few forums and most point to a dead gearbox.

Is this the case or are there other things to look at first.

By the way what a car (when its running lol)

    Thanks in advance

well, the early T6 cars were dogged with bad electricals and gearboxes. If you can get the tranny flushed, that might keep it going long enough to trade it in. It would be worth having the codes read too as it might reveal a quick-fix-problem.

    good luck.

Thanks for the replies guys. Is it a big job getting a flush done or could someone with decent mechanic skills do it?
