    s60 engine mounts

im getting a roughgear change on my 2005 t5. i suspect a engine mount but thought id get the opinions of the more experienced volvo members. las year i replaced the top mount and that improved this. no its getting worse again. think im going to replace the two cross mount bushes. hoping this will sort it. will get polys if they are available. even when i replaced the top mount the new one seemed to have play init. its the square type. im tempted to replace it and get the reound poly mount if its not to harsh

I recently replaced my top mount and it also had lots of play in it. I believe the consensus is not to replace the top mount with poly. Have you replaced the small gearbox torque rod bush with poly? I did mine and can confirm it makes a small difference and gives a lovely exhaust note as a result!

only changed the top mount and that was a year ago. even when i changed it, it seemed to have lots of play. maybe its due to the brace mounts being worn to. im going to replace them next. think im going to stay clear of poly bushes.

From what I have seen this is a new thing saying not to replace the top mount for a polly, before this it was classed as a really good upgrade........ Im glad I changed mine to one.
    Thanks

I read that it makes the engine noise more intrusive and the ride harsher - what's your view?

I poly'd my top mount last week and after chasing down and fixing a few rattles, it's sweet as. Bit of vibration at idle and a lovely exhaust note through the cab on boost. Perfectly quiet while cruising. I have a standard exhaust system, cone filter and no soundproofing in the engine bay this makes for a nice soundtrack for those in the car without upsetting other road users.
I did the lower mount ages ago too, and the wishbone bushes

A very nice balance of sound and ride quality, I'm happy with it and Mrs. MRP doesn't hate it

My view, at idle you will feel a vibration, it feels no worse than what some cars are as standard. If it vibrated that much that my interior rattled I wouldnt use it. I removed my engine sound proofing when I fitted my AMS, So I don't know how it sounds with the sound proofing on, it does make the car have a more meaty noise to it. I havnt noticed any difference with the ride or my gear changes.....
    Thanks

lol, 1st in mine is manic, dunno if it's the LK box (36mph in 1st) or just the power but flooring it in 1st is pointless lol.
Coulped with the slow and clunky gearchange I get with my box, my passengers look like that scene out of Wayne's World where they're listening to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody...

Interesting that you mention gear change Martyn because post Poly top mount my gear changes between 1st - 2nd were definately not silky smooth. However, since going OE on the top mount i would say it has vastly improved. More smooth than silky!

I know Its always been like that in both of our R's, there maybe is a slight difference but none that I have felt. I will certainly give the S60 a try when its back on the road and thats bogo standard
    Thanks
