Steering column gaiter/boot

My steering U/J was worn so i had Volvo replace it a month ago. £49 for the part and 30 minutes labour. No stress at all! I must say the steering feel is much improved and no more 'donk/donk' turning left and right and the steering is perfectly straight. Happy days.

I'm going to do some more investigation into mine! The boot on mine is fine but there is a definite creaking and groaning from under the car when you turn the wheel at low / manoeuvring speeds. There is no play in the steering at all I should mention.

check the power steering fluid level mate, that can cause a creak if low.

Ah yes. My PS bottle has swollen and is misting a little. I remember my C70 did the same thing and I got funny noises but that was accompanied by heavy steering too. I've not had that. Will check tomorrow though. Good call.

creaking suspension/steering. Check strut support plates. When the bearings fail, they creak. If you spray WD on the top of the struts (under the bonnet) and it stops creaking then you've correctly diagnosed the problem. Support plates are £56 each from dealer and easy to fit.
