    Volvo c70 electric seat

    Hello everyone,
I've just got back into the Volvo scene by buying my wife ) a c70 t5.
The previous owner must have had a problem with the passenger seat, as he has taken out the control module and the seat is stuck in the forward position.
I cant remove the seat as I can't get to the front bolts. Any ideas on how to move the seat would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Martin.

Where are you in the world? You can probably get in with swan neck spanners? Failiing that you will probably have to try to disengage the motors - but as I have only ever had manual seats on my C70 - I am not sure. Perhaps a spare battery to try to drive the motor directly?

I have a spare set of manual seats in grey leather (with heaters) should you need them.

Im in Cumbria. There isnt very much room under the seats to get to the motors. It would be best to get the seat out the car. I would like to keep the seats because they are in mint condition but thanks anyway

So are mine - but a replacement control unit will be as much as the seat? If you can get one?

Have you checked your fuses? I suppose there are not on different looms - so that's probably not it. If the drivers' side works but not on the passenger, with the same control unit - you'd have to suspect a break in the loom to the motors or between the switches & the control unit.

Only way to sort that out is to get the seat out - otherwise how can you check the motors?

Alternatively if you can get a current across the motor you may be able to move the seat into a static position? But with the seat in place - I am not sure you'd be able to get that far in. You'll need to get creative with the spanners. Having taken out a few sets in my time - I know this will not be easy.

Another alternative - There was a breaker on ebay - who had a C70 with elecy seats not far from you IIRC. He was asking quite big money - which is why I changed my mind. the car was a silver 2 litre.

Silly question but what tools do you have?

How far forward is the seat - say relative to the gear leve? If you take photo - I will put my seat in the same position & try & get to the bolts - 17mm IIRC - and let you know how I get on.

Upload the pictures from the location in My Pictures using the manage attachment part of the message editor. You may need to resize.

WOW that is pretty far forward!! LOL - not sure it goes much further!

At least undoing the rear bolts is not hard!

Bad news I am afraid. With the runners that far forward there is no way you can get any spanner between it & bolt underneath.

As I sees it - you have but few options.

leave it as it is - which is not really going to work
destroy the seat from above - there is a narrow possibility of removing the bottom cushion - but it is bad enough trying to get it off with the seat out of the car.
Get the longitudinal motor working or disengaged whilst still in situ.

I am afraid as I see it, once the runner is above the anchor bolt you can't reach it, nevermind undo it.

Best option would be to try to disengage the motor or get the front/back one powered up with a 12V car battery across the motor's terminals. I have no idea how easy or hard that is. I would put the rear bolts back in first - so if you do get it moving then you can just move it once & leave it.

Ok, thanks for that. There goes me thinking it was going to be an easy fix. I'll have a look when it gets back from the garage and see if i can get a live to the motor.

I repositioned my own seat to match - and I am sorry but as far as I can see there is no way around it.
