    M56 gearbox oil

Can anyone tell me what gearbox oil should be used in this box,I've heard only oil bought from Volvo should be used or you could have premature gearbox failure ???.

Its not Volvo Spec no... christ thats something stupid like £50 for 5l as its treated as a "lifetime" oil.

I use 75-90 also and have had no issues. I would reccommend to anyone chaning gearbox oil every 50k miles for normal driving or at lesser intervals when racing as for the price its simply not worth letting the oil degrade to the point of disaster.

Thanks mate , I'll put that on my shopping list,I will be changing the g/b oil after each season of racing as it will get a lot of stick.
I'm I right in thinking you need at least 2 litres for the manual m56 box.

You are indeed, Volvo state it takes 2.1 Litres fully drained. I have never managed to squeeze much more than 2 litres in however.

Sorry, been away for a few hours.
As above, in fact, it was Mr. Moose here who told me which oil to use

No problem, thats what the forums for

Marty I have never checked but I'd assume yes the M59 takes the same oil too as its an M56 with a few extra's.

I bought the Volvo gearbox oil and it was £10 for a litre, how much is the 75/90 full synth in comparison per litre, can`t be much difference?

Last time I ordered some it was £2.39 a litre on the trade account. Usually retails at around £7.99 for a 1l bottle and £25-£30 for 5L bottle.
