    Northbound and down...!

Well, im just up after a well deserved kip, and with Jerry Reed still buzzing in my head...!

After going down to Englandshire yesterday to have a look at that V70R, I ended up buying her and taking her on a 700 mile road trip home to Thurso.

I figured that would be a pretty good test of the cars reliability. Fingers crossed...!

Firstly, i really feel for anyone who lives around the Greater Birmingham area. Jeez, those bloody motorways are a joke and so damn crowded.

Initially when i inspected the car, the only things i could find wrong were the trim inside the tailgate was loose, and there was a split CV boot on the O/S/F, which was picked up on the MOT as an advisory.

Engine oil, and tranny fluid was fresh as a daisy, so after another hour inspecting panel gaps and underneath the car, i plumpted to go for a test drive.

Car started up no problems, and there was no blue or white smoke coming from the exhaust. Only thing i noticed was the service light stayed on, but went out after a couple of minutes...... Dry solder joint perhaps....???

Anyways, i took the car out for a 15 minute jog by myself. I did notice the brakes were a little sticky and squealed a wee bit, but the car had been stood for a while.

After warming the car up, all gauges seemed normal, so i stretched her legs a wee bit on a dual carrigeway to see if the gears held through the rev range, again no problems. The car also tracked well in a straight line.

After coming back from the drive, i checked the dipstick for smoke, and was again relieved to find no issues.

So there it is............ My first V70R.......

I know you lot are all pic whores, so i'll try and get a few up of the car....!

Jerry Reed ..blast from the past there, what a chanter !!!

The service light staying on means its just not been reset after a dervice so it will stay on a few mins then go out

you may be getting confused with the ABS light staying on which could be own to dry solder joints

And yes, pics are good !

    Cheers mate.

The car does look clean in the pics, but even i was surprised by it in the flesh.

The previous owner really did look after it.

Will need to get rid of all the dead flies on it and give it a proper polish and wax.

§§§§§§....! If i'd known that it was only £150 for a remap, then i would have swung by Bromsgrove to have got it done when i was down there...!

Car is an auto by the by, although its not proving a problem to get used to, even though i thought it would.

My 97 T5 has just been done for £150 with the HLM304, but the ECU was sent down to Bromsgrove and returned in just a few days. I smile every time I put my foot down now and it is well worth that money and then some.

So you'd recommend the 304 then if its basically a Rica map like yours....???

The nearest Rica dealer to me is in Aberdeen, and is a hassle to get to.

My local Volvo independent sent it down for me, but I'm sure that if you contact them, then you'll be able to do the same. The difference is astounding, and I would very highly recommend that you have it done.

Cracking car by the way, and I hope that it goes really well for you. Look forward to more picys!

hlm used to be a rica agent so you are getting the same map with a different name mate, not like mine as mine is a custom map for a 19t turbo, two sizes up from yours
